I love Bowdoin, but my stats are a bit low for the school (lots of ECs (newspaper editor, class president) and 7 APs, but my GPA is about a 3.5 and my ACT is a 31

Would it make sense for me to do ED II even if I have financial concerns?

ED2 probably isn't a good idea if you have financial concerns because you will be stuck with whatever the aid offer Bowdoin gives you is. If Bowdoin is your first choice and it is the school you would pick regardless of the money than apply ED2....but if you are concerned about money i would just apply RD

If you're absolutely sure it's your first choice, then EDII is the way to go. I also need financial aid, but I'm definitely applying EDII. Hopefully we'll both be accepted!

So do I. My stat is low . I dont send SAT score too. :( I also need fin aid >.< But I change from RD to EDII 'cos I love Bowdoin so much. Hope that we all will be accepted. :)

its good that you are ok with that , my dear :) Bowdoin is the best place for you. :) I already submitted the commonapp. Now, i keep my fingers crossed :X:X Hopefully we will meet next year :X

its ok to break the bind, fin aide is sorta necessary for families who get like below 75 k a year, now if u make like 200k and u just dont wanna pay then yea it looks bad, if u have the money dont whine about fin aid, u didnt get it cuz ur rich lol...if u truly need it, you'll get it...if not, so you have to pay back college loans-an education from a top university pays for itself-a degree from bowdoin will yield higher pay than a state college upon graduation=more money!

you guys are making me nervous! I need like full financial aid, and I applied EDII. But my family makes less than ten thousand a year so...think I'm good?

It's great to see you all are excited about Bowdoin. I like to read these threads--haven't been on here in a while though. oregano you will definitely get a decent financial aid package based on the info you mentioned on this thread. My family's financial background is not affluent at all and I received a nice package after my EDII acceptance. However, your TRUE financial aid award won't be determined until summer. Don't worry, it's similar to the estimate you will receive if accepted. Good Luck! :D

I am really worried about my chance too. And def fin aid package. >.< Its my biggest concern.
Boston_08, I did not send SAT score, is it still ok? I heard sb tells that focus on some ECs that we are really involved . Hows about Bowdoin ? I just listed 4 or 5 activities that i really involved. There are some that i dont list. does the short list of ECs hurt my chance?

While the majority of applicants submit scores, Bowdoin doesn't discount you if you didn't submit them. Instead, focus on why Bowdoin is your first choice and really paint a vivid picture to the Adcom on why you should be admitted. The "what makes me stand out" question should be answered.

Yet, you have to be careful because your GPA may become more of a salient issue to the Adcom.

Yes, I focused heavily on some major EC's I participated in during my high school years. To be honest, they earned me national recognition but in college admissions it's all relative.

I wouldn't list more than 6 EC's. You want to focus on quality not quantity. I'm sure the Adcom is receiving thousands of applications with just laundry lists of EC's.

I encourage you to look at the 07-08 Common Data Set. The 08-09 should be out by Spring, if not sooner. Included is important admissions data for the Class of 2011, which demographically is similar to the Class of 2012.

Thank Boston_08 indeed. You are such big help :) . My GPA is not really outstanding but i have my own situation. I focus ony myself and my determination, hope that it helps.

Bowdoin seems to like academic students : ( sadly i am not really. I have national award , but according to you, I lost my hope again. Anyway, i already submitted it. Now, just wait and keep my fingers crossed. ^ ^
Hope to see you in Bowdoin. :) You are really kind.
