Is ed 2 at Emory basically where you sign a binding contract while being thrown in with the rd pool (considering that their deadlines are only 2 weeks apart)?

no, you are considered on an earlier basis and given priority over the rd people. it’s designed to target students who have emory as their 2nd choice but were rejected/deferred from their 1st choice collge during the normal early decision round.

Oh god, that’s great. Doesn’t Emory also take interest like that into high consideration?

^Yes.

Message too short.

While I silently agree with collegestu816 that ED II is designed for people with Emory as their second choice, you will not hear a single Emory admissions officer say this.

When I asked why they offer an Early Decision II option, they said it was for (a.) Students who need the extra time to bump up their senior year grades/SAT scores or (b.) Students who needed more time to decide whether Emory really is their number 1 choice.

So while I know it is not against the rules (nor is it frowned upon) to apply ED 1 somewhere else and apply ED II to Emory if denied/watilisted from your ED 1 school, I would be careful about mentioning that Emory was your second choice. Emory REALLY takes interest into consideration. :)

Should I be careful because they won’t like hearing they’re a second choice or because it is important to mention that they are my second choice?

I wouldn’t mention it. Applying ED II shows your interest.

Emory’s yield rate is below 30%. Like 28% I think.

So if they don’t take interest into account-
