Does anyone know? I know the data for the overall ED acceptance rate for UPenn, but that includes everything (CAS, Wharton, Huntsman, all the other programs). What about just Wharton specifically?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t exist. =(

you mean this?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/1177399-released-wharton-admissions-statistics.html

@lilsheeve, thanks for the link, but it doesn’t have the acceptance rate for Wharton for early decision specifically…

I had made a thread about it last year, specifically about the ED rate, in that one I came up with the number 17%, but if the numbers in that thread linked above are true, then if you de-average the 7.5% overall rate with the RD rate being 5.4%, the ED rate would be around 9.6% or something, which is a lot different from 17%…

A tour at Penn said all the colleges were about the same.

^really? I had assumed Wharton was a lot tougher to get into than the others.

Wharton admissions officers claimed that last year’s Early Decision admission rate for Wharton was around 11% but then you have to take into account legacy students, etc. In reality, I’d say the rate for non-legacy students is somewhere around 8% for ED. Regular is somewhere around 6%, give or take a couple dozen people.

Wow, if that’s true then that’s ridiculously low for an ED app. I really hope that’s not true >.<

Any idea what percentage get deferred ED?

wikiman’s thread about 2014 ED rate: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/1022824-how-many-applying-wharton-ed.html

i wonder what the numbers are like for 2015.

There’s statistical bias with the link that spectralfish posted, so take it with a grain of salt! I’d estimate the ED acceptance rate at around 12%.

The general range is from 7-15… 17 at most (though very unlikely nowadays). Just know that admissions is extremely competitive (amongst the most competitive in the world), so apply with that in mind.

If you’re asking this to determine whether or not you should apply early to Wharton/Penn, know that they accept more than half their students Early Decision and they definitely show preference to kids that apply early.

The school-by-school breakdown isn’t officially published, but I do know from my admit officer and the Wharton 2015 FB group that RD was 5.4% and overall was 7.5%. I’ve heard about 400 people were admitted RD, so given a roughly 80% yield and a class size of 550 the ED admit rate was about 8.9%. This is pretty damn low, partially because a lot of people do apply ED over RD compared to other schools, which offsets some of the statistical advantage of ED. These are unofficial numbers so they may be a bit off–but no one in with current numbers is talking about a 20% admit rate, ED or otherwise.

Seems like if Wharton is one of your reaches you’re better off using the ED somewhere else.

I’e heard that the ED rate is about 9%, as well. A few kids here have tried to calculate it and have all come up with something around that number.
