does anyone know what the actual rate was?

~30% usually.
True stats will be released by the U after Jan 1.

Princeton has always released this data long after other schools. I'm not sure why. Fred Hargadon always seemed to feel that releasing ED stats - and even RD stats (!) before admits were locked up might surrender a competitive advantage.

But now with Rapelye here...we'll see :)

It may depend on whether Princeton exceeded the 50% mark in filling the class via ED.

I think Hargadon felt that any story disclosing that more than half the slots were already filled via ED would discourage people from filing RD. Thus the total news blackout on ED data until after the Jan 1 submittal date for RD apps.

Anybody know Princeton's ED admit stats for last year?

Princeton accepted 581 of 1815 ED applicants for the Class of 2008 - an acceptance rate of 32%.

Those accepted ED constituted about half the class.

Princeton also accepted 1,151 of 11,880 RD applicants, for an RD acceptance rate of 9.7%

The Class of 1,175 consisted of 581 ED admits and 594 RD admits.

The overall yield rate was 68%, and the yield rate on RD admits was 51.6%.

According to this USNews list, (if it's this year's admit rates) it's 24% acceptance ED.

The US News number is for the Class of 2007, not the Class of 2008.

Am I reading wrong, but doesn't it seem that most of the kids who were accepted had music in their background...????

Where are you reading that?

Musicians were definately HURT in the ED round. I am a serious musician and was deferred, along with many other musical applicants. At this point, there doesn't really seem to be a trend as to what kind of people they accepted. There were a whole range of test scores and GPA's, as well as a wide range of EC's. From my high school, the two people who were accepted were both athletes, but that doesn't seem to hold for the entire ED pool. I personally think it's the essays, as well as an element of luck.

I really don't think that having or not having music was a deciding factor either way.

Most of the musicians who were deferred seemed to play the piano. I'm sure musicians who played uncommom instruments that were needed for the orchestra/band fared better in the admissions process. The instruments that are desireable for a particular school, varies from year to year.

Definitely not, like ForeverZero, I'm a serious musician, and not a pianist either. I sent in a demo CD as a composer/arranger of music rather than as a performing artist. But I was deferred.

Or maybe financial aid does matter? Anyone here was accepted ED with financial aid? I applied for financial aid and got deferred, and I know a lot of great people here with great stats got deferred, perhaps because they applied for financial aid...
any comments? :?

I was accepted, and got 17k in aid, so I don't think it's an issue. Princeton says it's not an issue, and I believe them - with the endowment they have, they can afford to honestly be need blind.

I was accepted with 40K/44K, so I know it wasn't an issue, hehe.

holy crap, i'm jealous, i only got 8k, but i definitely need about 20k

negotiate! bargain! use voodoo! do what you must to obtain your rightful 20k...need a litigator? I once debated...once...:D
