ED Admittees & Admitted Students Day

My child is an OOS ED admittee and just received the Monroe letter/package. In our case, there is no decision to be made as to which school to attend next year.

However, from reading posts over the last year or so, and also the web site, it seems as though Admitted Students Day is geared towards informing (convincing?) RD admitted students who haven't made up their mind as to what all WM has to offer.

Likewise, we imagine that the "Monroe component" of the Admitted Students Day/Weekend is geared toward informing/convincing the RD Monroe admittees, as well. We can certainly understand that it is in WM's interest to sell itself to RD Monroe admittees who are likely to have options to attend similarly excellent schools, so we have no quarrel with that.

Q: What all is an ED admittee (Monroe or otherwise) likely to appreciate/enjoy/gain from, by attending Admitted Students Day/Weekend? Same question for a parent of such an ED admittee?

Also, WM Admissions -- Thanks in advance - you do a great job here.

I would imagine they would also enjoy the opportunity to meet some of their classmates. Once school starts, it really doesn’t matter whether you were accepted ED or RD, you still need friends. They could also meet a possible room mate.

I am an ED admittee, and I am going so my family can see the school. Only my mom has seen it, plus my younger sister is scouting it out for her college search.

And it just looks like a lot of fun :)

Certainly a component of our Day for Admitted Students is too showcase what W&M has to offer to those who are still deciding which college they will attend. That being said, any student can learn more about W&M from that day.

We have sessions on residence life, research, serivce, campus diversity, study abroad, pre-professional programs, academic advising, fine arts, campus sustainability efforts, career services, student panels and parent panels. We also have mock lectures, sessions with most academic departments, and a student activities fair.

The Monroe Weekend includes more information about that specific program including a research showcase, a welcome by the program’s director, a parent reception with faculty, an opportunity for admitted students to eat on campus with current Monroe Scholars, plus optional evening activities that help students experience campus life.

Hope this is helpful!
