ED Agreement Question

I posted this in the Elon forum but its sort of a general question and thought it may get more attention here.

I have decided to apply ED to Elon, and was going through the application and noticed in the ED agreement it asks me to list the other schools I’m applying too early action. Does this effect my chances at the other schools? If I get in ED will Elon notify the other schools I list and tell them to withdraw my application?

I ask because while I did run the net price calculator and it was affordable, but should for some reason the aid estimated in the calculator not come through, then I wouldn’t be able to afford it. But the ED contract says I can be released for financial reasons, so if it comes to that, I still want to have options from the other schools I applied too EA.

Thanks!

You do not need to tell Elon (or any other college or university) where else you are applying. That information is just for their own analyses of which colleges and universities also attract their candidates.

If you are admitted at Elon, and the aid package works for you, and you do finalize your commitment to attend Elon, then it is your responsibility to withdraw your other applications. However, you do not need to withdraw your other applications until after you and your family have indeed determined Elon’s affordability and have completed any discussions with Elon about the details of your aid package.

Please know that you might not receive an estimated aid package from the EA institutions in time to be able to compare them with Elon’s aid package. For that reason, you need to be very clear about your financial limits so that you can judge Elon’s package without comparing it to others. Please know also that any aid package you receive in the fall may be adjusted next spring when your financial aid paperwork is finalized. So if you are accepted at Elon, and the aid package is borderline for affordability, have a discussion with the financial aid office about the details, and get an estimate about how any pending changes in your family’s financial situation could affect the finalized package.

@happymomof1 thank you!!! That’s exactly the information I was looking for.
