<p>Look at the thread called “Guide to Early Decision,…” posted by debryc. It gives a good outline of the requirements and limitations of the various different kinds of application. The bottom line is that different schools have different requirements, so you should look carefully at the guidelines for William and Mary, SUNY-Binghampton and UMD to make sure you don’t jeopardize your position.</p>
<p>Generally, an ED school allows you to apply EA elsewhere. For EA schools, many allow you to apply ED or EA elsewhere but some prohibit you from applying ED elsewhere and still others both ED and EA. As to William and Mary, it allows you to apply EA elsewhere. Suny has not restriction to applying EA or ED elsewhere. U of M’s program may not even be formally considered EA, but instead a form of RD that has a priority date for applying, which means if you apply by that date you will be notified by sometime in February rather than later. In any event, it also does not restrict you from applying ED or EA elsewhere.</p>
