ED and Rolling admissions

My son was thinking of applying Ed to Vassar and Rolling to U of Mich and Indiana university. Is this allowable under the terms of ED.?

Thanks,

It is fine to apply rolling admissions to other schools if you are applying ED. In fact, it makes good sense to do so, instead of waiting to hear back from the ED school.

However, the student needs to understand that if they are admitted to the ED school they have made a binding agreement to attend that school. Any acceptances already received from other schools at that point must be turned down immediately for the ED school, and any applications still outstanding must be withdrawn immediately (well, after the financial aid is settled).

what does it mean to apply rolling admissions?

The school continuously admits students during its stated admit period as opposed to a specific time.

Your son can also apply RD to any schools prior to hearing back from Vassar. And he can apply EA to other schools whose rules do not forbid ED/EA applications (Georgetown and BC's rules do forbid it). The restrictions have to do with what happens upon acceptance to the ED school; after all, why would an ED school say that you must withdraw other applications if you weren't allowed to send them in the first place?

Since rolling admissions are not binding, the worst (best?) that happens is that he gets into Vassar and must say no to the other schools that accepted him.
