My friend applied ED to Carleton. She doesn't read this website, so I'm trying to find things out for her. Does anyone know when Carleton is sending out the ED decisions? And if anyone has gotten one, what the envelopes look like. Especially the "accepted" envelopes. ;)

On the website, it just says "On or before Dec. 15." Last year, there were a lot people on CC applying ED to Carleton--at least, enough to start a thread and keep it going. I haven't seen much (if any) discussion by ED applicants here this year. The first post about ED acceptance was on 12/11 last year. Here's the thread:

I know Carleton's RD decisions came in a large envelope last year (I'm the parent of a Carleton freshman).

Oh, thanks. That was a nice thread to read (well, it's long, I just read part of it) and it looks like the earliest anyone heard about ED was a few days earlier than the website says. I'll tell my friend. She might hear a little sooner than she thinks. Hope it's good news for her! Sounds like a great school.

My daughter just received her ED acceptance. I don't know who is happier --the parents or my kid!!!! We are all thrilled.

Congratulations, new Carleton mom!

My best friend got in today too!

Just out of curiosity, can any of the people who got in post their stats please? I'm interested in knowing what kinds of students Carleton accepts, and how much emphasis it places on SAT scores/ECs, etc.

Thanks!

My friend has a 3.95 GPA at a competitive private school, SATs between 2200-2250 (not sure exactly what they were). She and I are the editors of the school's literary magazine, and she's been doing theater forever, volunteers, etc. Hope that helps!

My brother got into Carleton today-he lives in Massachusetts. 2200 SATS, 3.8 GPA, a few ecs, great essays!

good friend got in yesterday! 31 ACT 4.3 GPA, involved in choir and theater extensively, legacy as well.

SAT-almost 2400.
ACT-35.
One of top 3 students in non-ranking rigorous private school.
Lots of EC
Great letters.
Backups were other top LAC. Didn't want ivy.

See you in Northfield.

Congratulations to all the new Carls! If you have any questions, please post. There are several students and parents here who are glad to help.

Congratulations to you all! My (freshman) daughter just finished her first trimester at Carleton, and she can't say enough wonderful about this school. Carl12--from you "name" and your post, it seems you'll be heading into the hinterlands of the upper midwest come next fall. You won't regret it!

Congrats to the EDer's from another Carl Mom. D graduates this June and we will all miss Carleton, Northfield, and Minneapolis! The past 4 years have just raced by! Enjoy.

Congrats 2012ers!

Welcome to Carleton! I'm a freshman ED-admit fresh off my first term and I can't imagine being happier with my choice. Enjoy your stress-free wait and I can't wait to see you all next fall!

Congrats to all the new Carls (and their parents :)) from a Carl mom! Like Hindoo's D, our son just finished his first term at Carleton and loves it.

Maizeandblue, I understand your feelings. I'm already looking forward to next year's family weekend. (This may say more about the level of excitement in my life than it does about Carleton.:p)

I am an international applicant. I have not heard from the college. Does that mean I am not accepted?

limner ~ I will so miss family weekends. My favorite time of year in Northfield is mid-October with the chill in the air and the orange on the leaves. I can recite every sentiment that President Oden expresses about the benefits of Carleton. While my D is ready to leave (size of an LAC is its biggest attribute and its biggest weakness), she'll return for reunion weekend every year and be a donating alumnus. Best of luck to your S. The time does fly!

M&B, just two terms left - it's amazing how fast time can be. Best wishes to your daughter, and I hope you post about what a Carleton graduation is like (it's bound to be interesting).
