AmazingOnline: The academic and athletic are quantifiable. I think essays and recommendations mixed with interview will lead to a third axis which may end up being deterministic. What do you think ?

Or, we could create a 9 dimensional cube using 1. course load, 2. performance, 3. EC breadth, 4. EC depth, 5. interview, 6. essays, 7. recommendations, 8. race, 9. legacy. I’ll get to work on an algorithm.

Ohh sorry if I wasn’t clear.
The non-academics group includes recommendations, essays, interview, extracurriculars, background (1st gen, legacy, etc.).

And I forget the exact figures of a 5/3 and a 4/4, but the former only has a 5% better chance, I believe. I mention that because I think non-acads are underrepresented by many applicants. So, rainbowrose, it’s good to ask for stats and e.c., and not so insightful to just ask for stats alone.

I mean, the system of ranking and deciding who gets in makes sense. I just don’t know if it makes sense to equate it to a percent, but rather to make certain number combinations more “desirable” than others. It’s not like they can say “this person has a 90% chance of getting in and this one 95%, so lets take the 95% one.” It’s more like “this person’s number combination seems like this person would be a bigger contribution to our campus.”

So, yaybrown’s server just shut down…

@rainbowrose, yeah there is no definite percentage number, but the officer did tell me that the system works in a manner like that (he did give me those actual figures). The meaning of the rankings are for some process in determining decisions, and ratings are definitely geared toward how well a person fits at brown also. in any case, it’s interesting

Oh, and a possible explanation for the email to me one month later might be just because they are are now finally going over my application… is that a possibility?

yea that might be a possibility. and have you considered this as a possibility: what if they are unsure whether you need aid and want to learn what the reason behind the change was? e.g change of circumstances/you just decided to have a go.

I haven’t gotten any email, so I hope I’m not weeded out lol. But AmazingOnline’s theory does make sense. 6 DAYS AWAY

This is a little unrelated but do you guys know when are we getting the results? At 00.00 on the 15th or a little later than that?

Also, are we going to get emails that contain the decision, or are we going to log into our brown accounts?

They are available online at 5PM EST on December 13th (Monday)… no emails. Acceptance letters are being mailed that day, too.

oh hai i have been reading this thread for so long so i decided i would join i on the fun!
but question- since when are the decisions available on december 13? I have heard december 15 over and over again, and my interviewer also specifically said that the day would be december 15. Any help? shmanks :)

the new date of dec 13th was announced on the Adcom’s blog

oooooooooooohh i see. Okay thanks, cool. ASKDJHlkasjd I am freakinnnnnn… did any of you guys send in an arts supplement? If you did, how large were the photos of your works? Mine were only 4 x 6 prints, but now I’m worrying that they were too small

^haha, i’m kinda worrying about the same thing. i sent recordings of me playing piano, but the sound quality wasn’t the best. I thought the actual playing was fine though. I don’t think they need to see it in immense detail, as long as they get an idea of your abilities.

Did any of you get an email about FA? I’m still wondering about AmazingOnline’s case.

no FA email! Do you think it means anything that my interviewer waited to contact me on november 30, and scheduled our interview for december 1st so that it was absolutely last minute and he had to write his letter and send it to admissions by midnight that same day? The interview went amazing though and lasted 1 and 1/2 hours. Maybe he just procrastinated? Does it have anything to do with admissions contacting the alumni and asking them to interview me last minute?

@jollygreengiant: Honestly I have no clue. I’m wondering if we’re all deferred… :(

jollygreengiant your interviewer was probably lazy or didnt read the email sent to him on time… i also had my interview on the 1st… why on earth would admissions ask the interviewer to take the interview last minute!!!

yeah haha I agree with querty I think admissions would definitely want interviews done ASAP
