ED Applicants, Current Students, Alumni: Alumni Interviews-The Details

Hey Everyone,

I, like so many of you, have applied ED to Cornell, and as many of you have, I recently received an email from a Cornell alum in my area to meet and discuss Cornell and the school I'm applying to and to answer any and all questions I may have.

I'm hoping that other current ED applicants who have already conducted their interview or current Cornell students or alumni who did them in the application process could maybe share what happened in their alumni interviews and what they would advise for others to do in their interviews. Any information about the importance of these interviews, how formal they are, their role (if any) in the admissions decision, and just any relevant info that could help those of us who have not yet done their interviews would be .

Thanks, and good luck to all.

God I’m so angry at myself. I got an email for an alumni interview, but waited to reply. He needed a reply because we need to meet by Wednesday. Too late for that now. Screw my procrastination!!! I hope he will still meet with me though, I have some questions. Though he will not be able to submit a report:(

Hi everyone! I had a local alumni interview for AAP fine arts in mid October.

General comments:

Interview was laid back and very nice. My interviewer was sort of quiet/awkward in the same way that I am so we got along fine and had a chance to talk after she got through the required questions. The review lasted about an hour and she showed me around her studio and recommended artists for me to research. I made sure to send her a thank you card. In follow up emails, she told me she wrote a great report so I’m hoping it’ll help a lot!

Art-specific comments:

She asked me about artists that I liked as well as recent museum visits. I was mostly prepared to answer this, so it wasn’t too bad. She looked through my portfolio and did take time to pick out pieces that I should include in my application and some that could use additional work. Overall she told me that my work was strong and I should do well wherever I end up. I hope so! She seemed to have lots of advice to offer.

If anyone has any questions for me feel free to ask!
