Hi.. I have a 1350 (680m, 670v) for my SAT 1..
Is that really bad? And will it hurt my chances at Columbia?
My SAT 2 scores are out next week..

What are everyone else's SAT scores like?

What are everyone else's SAT scores like?

1540 800M 740 V

760W/740/710

no yours aren't too low. its within the 25%-75% range.

1410 650 M 760 V
760 W/730 Lit/640 Math IC
i agree, yours should be fine if you have shown academic strength in other places (transcript, AP scores, etc)

680m, 680v (these scores are from May...I took it again November, scores come out week from today)

800w, 800iic, 770ush

1580 (780 Math).

Some have said the SATII's matter more than the I, but I'm very skeptical of this--what's your take?

Slicker, that is so NOT true, you should call Columbia or speak with a rep because IIs DOES NOT have more weight than I.

I doubt anyone disagrees with me on this...but who knows?

Delfire, that's exactly my understanding...it's exactly what a rep told me; but if you check an earlier thread on this forum, "Rank, rank it up," a lot of kids were "ranking" the SATII's as more important than the I, which I strongly disagree with.

740V/750M
710 Writing, 780 Chem, 800 IIC

The SAT I doesn't get a second look--it's just to make sure that you are in the general range of applicants that they're looking for. SAT II confirms your grades in the specific subject areas (the purpose of standardized testing and HS profile is to be a reference frame for your transcript).

1330
740 Physics, 710 IIC, took writing in november

i thought II's were more important..but what do i know

1590 (790 Math)

750 writing, 800 chem, 780 lit, 760 math2c

well if the SAT I is in the general range, it won't get a second look... but if it's significantly higher or lower it will be taken into consideration (well that's what i think)

"but if it's significantly higher or lower it will be taken into consideration"

My point exactly, thx contessa.

is Columbia's SAT 1 range.. like 1350 -1450?

for the college i think so.

Ok.. so this means that if you hit this average range you're all set for thorough review ? :) Having a 1350 won't really hurt me that much will it?

And is it true that if you are an international applicant they add some points to you SAT score? -> ( some "myth" ive heard before)

Useful facts,
median 50% SAT I scores for Columbia accepted, '08

Columbia College: 1320-1510
School of Engineering: 1410-1530

I guess if your score falls in this range, it won't get much scrutiny. Higher is better, of course. In general, remember that standardized testing is supposed to place you, relatively, on an equal footing with other applicants and put your other academics into a standardized context.

Anything over a 1450 should be o.k.

1410, which i guess would be ok for College but i am applicant to SEAS. ouchhhhh

"Anything over a 1450 should be o.k."

So what's a 1350 then... less than o.k,?

"median 50% SAT I scores for Columbia accepted, '08"
--> so 25% of students get higher and lower than that range right?

"put your other academics into a standardized context."
how can they use SAT scores to put your academics into a standardized context.. cus the SATs do not measure one's intellectual level or depth of knowledge in a subject AT ALLL!!!......

1340 SAT

740/690/640 SAt 2's

1510 SAT I (800 V,710 M)
620 Writing, 690 Us history,700 lit

Since a 1510 is the last score in the 75 percent range, does that mean that they won't look at it again, even though its better than 75 percent of the students there?

SAT I: 1510 (770 V, 740 M)

SAT IIs:
Writing- 780
Lit- 700 (retook in Nov.)
Math IC - Nov.

Hopefully SAT IIs don't count as much as Is; I have a really bad feeling about my November tests.
