Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone knew when Penn would reveal the number of applications received ED this year!
Thanks!
Someone correct me if I am wrong but those numbers are published on decision day in The Daily Pennsylvanian.
Oh I see. Thank you @amanivy
Actually, the number of ED applicants is released shortly after the ED deadline. For example, the number was reported by the DP last year (2014) on November 5th:
http://www.thedp.com/article/2014/11/penn-early-decision-applications
And in 2013, the number was reported by the DP on November 14th, after the ED deadline had been extended to November 11th that year because of issues with the Common Application:

So, there will probably be an article in the DP sometime this week, or next week at the latest.
Oh fantastic. Thanks!
Another place to check is the social media accounts of Penn admission office.
BREAKING: Class of 2020 sees record high 5,629 early decision applicants
See the entire Daily Pennsylvanian article here:
http://www.thedp.com/article/2015/11/record-high-5629-early-decision-applicants-in-class-of-2020
Last year, 54.4 percent of the Class of 2019 was filled by Early Decision applicants.
Shoot. Is that a really large increase??
2.6%. I wouldn’t call that “really large.”
I don’t know how small percentages like that impact ED chances and whatnot!
I don’t know what Penn usually receives, and if their class sizes are staying roughly the same, a change in number of applications received could be a big deal D:
Penn’s class size has stayed roughly the same for DECADES. The target size for the freshman class is always 2,420, but the actually size obviously varies a bit from year to year (by tens of students, not hundreds). An increase of ED applicants by 2.6% will not appreciably impact ED chances. The ED acceptance rate will probably remain in the 20-25% range.
Alright. Hoping for a record high @“45 Percenter”
Also, do you know by chance approximately what percent of legacies they typically admit ED? I can only find overall numbers, and the percent of the whole class that is legacy
I’ve heard about 40% of legacy applicants are admitted, but I’ve also heard that the legacy apps are typically very strong.
Is that for ED or overall?
Oh sorry. I heard 40% of legacy applicants in the ED round are admitted. Definitely not high like that in the RD round; Penn tells legacies they have to apply ED to get the most consideration. I think they are the only college that comes right out and states that (and puts it on the website)
Thanks! I am just trying to get a better idea of what I am up against
@thewaffleman149 Good luck to you!
Thanks same to you if you are applying!
