Academic Decathlon (Team captain 10,11,12) [First time any school in our district has placed 1st at regionals and state, qualified for nationals and placed 6th in the nation, had lots of media coverage since our team really came out of nowhere. I've spent hundreds of hours studying for it]

- Personal Statement: About how I skateboarded for my entire life and how it taught me to love learning and advance myself within a group of people who were much older than me.
- Why Columbia: About how my AcDec team and I all were exposed to many different subjects and loved each one of them (specifically art for me). I tie this in to Columbia's Core curriculum
- Why my major (Physics): About how I took a trip to Europe and visited the Large Hadron Collider and how it inspired my interest in physics
-- If anyone could read these and give me some feedback it would be great!
Teacher Recommendation: From AcDec coach who I have had as a teacher for 3 years, very very close (like, texting close), should be amazing
Counselor Rec: I go to a large public, so it should be pretty generic as I've only spoken to her a couple of times
Additional Rec: From my Calc teacher who I've had for two years and I'm also close with, but not nearly as close as AcDec coach

Bump

You’re totally in. Your number of APS, the fact that you’re a minority, and your ACT score is all working WAY in your favor. Though I will admit the 31 math is like a 690/700 and is a little low for Columbia. Try and bump that to a 33. Otherwise I think you’re all set. And not to be rude, but try and play your ethnicity and you as a first generation college student in your favor (maybe through an essay on culture). Good luck! Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1690029-what-do-you-think-are-my-chances-of-getting-into-nyu-stern.html#latest

@ht1997 I’m actually not a first-gen college student, just URM. But yeah I went in to the 33 ACT completely blind, so my 31 math was sort of rare. I’m getting around 34-35s on the practice tests now. But thanks for the feedback!

Anyone else? Will chance back!

Bump

I think your application will certainly get a fair look. I don’t think anyone can offer you more than that, since Columbia has become so competitive recently. Good luck!

@woogzmama‌ Thank you!

Your profile looks great, but I don’t think anyone can honestly say whether or not you’ll get in. Ivy League schools are like that and even the best candidates can get rejected. I would also be wary of what people on here chance for you. I’m pretty sure no one here is an admissions counselor at Columbia so no one’s really in the know. Personally, I think you are a very strong candidate, but I’m sure you already knew that because you decided to apply to Columbia ED. Good luck! :)
