ED Application vs. First Semester Grades

I'm facing a dilemna. My grades are decent (3.6 UW, 3.7W), and a 29 ACT (hoping to improve with the latest score). I'm applying to Carleton College in MN, and it is a competitve LAC. I also attend a top 5 MN state public high school. My EC's are excellent and unique, almost a hook actually (won't elabroate, and I DO know what a hook is).

My dilmna is this. I really want to go to Carleton, so I'm thinking of applying ED. Then I look at my grades. My 1st Semester Senior grades are turning out really well, and now I don't know whether to wait to have very good 1st semester grades on my transcript for RD, or just decent grades for ED (I started trending upwards last semester, significant improvement, I got my act together).

Should I still apply ED?

Definitely apply ED. The acceptance chances are much higher, and it’s not worth the wait. If your scores already showed an upward trend, that’s good enough. They show more mercy to ED candidates anyway. Don’t worry, if you really want to go, you’ll get in.^^
Now can you chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1004549-chances-amherst.html

Sounds like you want ED2 - the deadline for application in 1/15 and decisions are mailed by 2/15. So you get the best of both worlds. Good luck!
