ed applications rise....by 10%

an article on princeton's news website (not the daily princetonian), said early decision applications rose by 10% from last year to 2000, but i thought last year, there were over 2000 ed applications anyway....anyone else know something i dont?...

http://www.princeton.edu/main/news/archive/S07/44/41Q40/index.xml

I think you are referring to that. That's actually from last year; I doubt they have numbers for us this quickly. No worries on that 10% rise (unless - and I think this will happen - there's a similar rise this year).

... that's also gonna mean that acceptance rates are gonna be lower

I'm just putting myself in the mindset that I've already been rejected/deferred so I won't be disappointed. Ugh..I wish Princeton wasn't such a crapshot.

Unfortunately, it is a crapshoot, partly because of its prestige.

If you've ever read this one book published several years ago titled "College Rankings Exposed," they say that one year when Yale ousted Harvard for first place on the USNWR, applications to Yale rose 14% that year and fell at Harvard.

Seems to me like some people are applying simply because it was number one.

The date on that article is Nov 18, 2004. Last year

This thread may help.

on a side note, Harvards SCEA pool this year fell about 500. Princeton and Yale probably picked up the slack

WhiteSox05, where did you get the news from? Any link?

Yeah, that was what I was going to suggest, unless the number of apps dropped at a bunch of schools, which isn't likely.

wow harvard SCEA actually dropped? weird...damn i applied to yale!

When will they release the early decision data this year?

Last year, this information was not released until January 5.

http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/archives/2005/01/05/news/11741.shtml

So since harvard EA dropped, does that mean harvard will accept a higher % of applicants for EA?

"on a side note, Harvards SCEA pool this year fell about 500." or about 12%

Princeton's rose by about 10%

So Byerly's tactics of promoting Harvard on the Princeton forum didn't work....he he he he he.

that 10% rise occurred last year, simba.

so i will take back one 'he' from 5 hehes.

The real data for Princeton is that it increase 9% this year for ED applicants. About 2200 this year from the 2000 last year.

Not very comforting...

what's your source for that figure, 2B?

well, for the moment it seems that besides harvard, most of the ED pools at the ivies have increased.the same is for penn[from what I heard] and also for brown:(
