ED applications up 14% this year

Christopher Watson, dean of undergraduate admissions, said his office has received 2,794 applications compared to 2,450 last year. Early admissions decisions will be released by Dec. 15.

The Daily Northwestern : Despite Common App glitches, Northwestern early decision apps up 14 percent

Ah…as an ED applicant this isn’t helping my nerves, but thanks for sharing. I’m tempted to just forbid myself from logging on to collegeconfidential until December 12th (which I’d say is a reasonable estimate for when decisions will be released,) but I know that isn’t going to happen, I procrastinate on CC more than I do on facebook nowadays -_____-

Oh also, for reference, the Class of 2017 is comprised of 2,025 students, so assuming that '18 will have a similar number of students, and also noting the fact that ED applicants will make up roughly 40% of the class, we can approximate the admit rate for this year’s ED applicant pool:

2,025 x .4 = 810
810/2,794 = .2899 (2,794 being all ED applicants)

So we’re looking at a 28-30% admit rate (roughly) for ED this year, good luck everyone!

I think the Administration hinted last year that they were planning to jack the number of applicants they take ED. May be more than 40% this year.
