ED at Johns Hopkins

Hi Everyone,

I'm applying ED to JHU this fall. Are my chances actually higher?

Also, if I elect biology as my major, is that really terrible? (I'd like to go pre-med but I know it's competitive.)

& Is the school as cutthroat as people say it is? I'm a bit nervous.

Please let me know if you have any tips for the supplement questions (for JHU) or applications in general.

Thank you!

It’s hard to say if applying ED makes your chances higher. Last year the admit rate for ED was significantly higher than the RD admit rate. This could be skewed by quite a few factors though because stronger applicants may have mostly chosen to apply ED while regular applicants were just a weaker pool overall. ED can’t hurt your chances and everything I have heard says it definitely helps a bit so if you know you want to go to JHU as a first choice, go for it. I think applicants are put into three pools (BME, Engineering School and Arts and Science) when applying so I don’t believe that intended major has too much of an effect. Pre-med may have some influence but it would be minimal.

ED admit rate will likely be around 37-38%, regular around 18% When I got in it was 43% and 20%.

Bio is doable, there are a ton of bio majors.

The cutthroat thing is somewhat overblown. Much like golf, everyone is fighting against par, not each other.
