I thought I’d start a new thread for us EDers, since our old one (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/barnard-college/983320-girls-100-sure-theyre-applying-early-decision-barnard-college-39.html) has died.

Do we need to submit a midyear report? I know RD do, but Barnard never mentioned anything in their letters.

oh sheet i hope not.

I asked on the facebook page, and they replied:

"Here’s what your letter says: “Please be aware that your admission is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of your final year in high school at a level in keeping with the strong record you presented at the time of your admission. I would like to remind you that we expect you to submit your final school report to us by July 1, 2011.”

No need to send in the mid-year report, unless that’s your school’s policy, but do send the final transcript as soon as it’s available. And, do your best to avoid the temptations of Senioritis!

All our best,

I feel like I can’t relax until all my friends are accepted into their dream college. I’m so nervous for them and really aware that I don’t constantly brag about my acceptance (but I am SO excited!!). My home is a very logical home; I’m constantly surrounded by intellect both here and in school. I reflected this evening, however, that I’m so excited to go to an art school. Every time I write a poem, EVERYONE doesn’t get it!! and when I explain it, they say that it’s way over their heads. At an art school and being immersed in New York City will allow me to be surrounded by people who RESPECT art and love inspiration and creativity!! Is it sad that I put “Stand Columbia” in my workout remix (and Ke$ha too!) because it makes me think about Barnard???

As for school, yeah, I’m slacking, but I realize that this is how learning is SUPPOSED to be. I love doing stuff in AP Government and I’m reading A Handmaid’s Tale in AP Lit and Comp which is a funky mix between The Scarlet Letter, 1984, and The Giver. It usually wouldn’t be my cup of tea, but I respect it a lot and admit that it’s very good and very well written. I have this pile of crack books that I just WANT to read (like Labyrinth by the guy who wrote the Uglies series and the sequel to Beautiful Creatures that’s called Beautiful Darkness… I just recently read another crack book called Eon of which I’m an official fan!!). Do tell me about books, everyone!!!

As for my sport, now that I’m not under the pressure of being recruited, I’m really enjoying myself. I’m not killing myself with lack of sleep and extra workouts. I think I’m actually doing BETTER now that I’m not under stress. We have a great season ahead of us, and I can balance that with reading.

So, other than midterms coming up, I think I’m living the perfect life right now. Tell me about movies, too.

Same here. Having to bottle up excitement b/c my friends are still waiting for their decisions. Thats why I love being able to go on CC and chat about it

About books, I LOOOOVE Scott Westerfield (me and my best friend went as tally and shay for halloween one year).

My fav books are: Wuthering Heights, To Kill a Mockingbird, and HP. I also enjoyed How I Live Now, anything by Ann Brashares (Barnard alumna!), Libba Bray, Scott Westerfield and Sarah Dessen (though recently her books have kind of sucked). Embarrassing enough, I also really enjoyed The Host.

As for movies, My absolute favorite of all time is Shakespeare in Love. But I also love: Wuthering Heights (basically any version), The Prestige, Bourne, Stage Beauty, Titanic, the OLD Pink Panther Movies, anything with Kiera Knightly, Gwyneth Paltrow, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchet or James Franco.

I wanted to watch a movie having to do with NY as per (hopefully) satisfying my excitement, so I watched spiderman. It was really funny to see them at Columbia, going into Low Library saying it was the Columbia science department. I also watched precious (which I hadn’t seen yet). This did not get me all that hyped for NY. I’m considering starting to watch GG again, just to see them stroll around Manhattan. I dont know if any movies were filmed at Barnard though?

Sorry for rambling on! What do you like in all the aforementioned categories?

“You know you don’t have to be famous. You just have to make your mother and father proud of you and you already have. Bravo to you. Congratulations.”
-Meryl Streep

All of the commencement speeches are fantastically inspirational. Needless to say, quite exciting :D

So, if you guys want to get more excited (and why wouldn’t you?) check this out:

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/orientation/documents/schedule/2010/BCFYSched2010.pdf

it’s the schedule from last year’s new student orientation. Sooo pumped!

I kinda don’t want a random roommate…

I think a random roommate would be fun. I feel like its totally a part of the college experience.

Your roommate won’t be entirely “random” at all if you fill out the extensive housing survey honestly. Barnard does, in my experience at least, a great job of considering important factors like study habits, “party” habits, etc in putting people together. My daughter was so excited to meet and get to know her first-year roommates and she LOVED living with them. So, my strong advice would be to open yourself up to that first year experience. Fill out that survey very honestly and embrace the idea of meeting and living with people you have never known before. You will certainly learn a lot from that experience and you will perhaps meet people who will become life-long friends! If not, then you can select different people to live with the following years…

Barnard freshman roommmate matching did an A+ job in D2’s case.

Don’t worry @figureskater. The absolute WORST thing that can happen is that you get a roommate you detest. Then you just avoid your room and gain even MORE experience of New York City and BC and Columbia. I hear that dorm life is totally different from our home life anyway. I think rooms are more for sleeping than for hanging out in. That’s what The Diana Center is for! You can still be friends with everyone on here, too!

From my extensive research, however, I hear that the Barnard questionnaire coordinator is amazing. He does it all by hand! It’s awesome to know that we’ll be going to school where they care who our roommate is and is doing a lot to make us comfortable.

Hey everyone! Congrats on getting accepted to the lovely Barnard! Next year’s going to be so grand! I can already tell from reading posts on CC and the facebook page that it’s going to be wonderful!

I don’t know about you guys, but I essentially spend my free periods at school browsing the Barnard website, and looking at the online store (have you all seen the class rings? They’re STUNNING), and reading things about the school on ************** and whatnot. It keeps me sane, since all I can think about is Barnard. People ask me a lot if I regret not applying to any other schools and I’m just like “LOLNO, I need to be at Barnard NOW.”

Can’t wait to meet you all! Today marks exactly SIX MONTHS AND ONE WEEK until move-in day!!!

I have a class ring. I get compliments on it all the time. :D

I can see why! They’re beautiful! Quite jealous of you haha

hey all! just joined cc, but have been following the posts for some time now!
i got in ED to barnard, and cant wait to meet all of you. august could not be here soon enough!

I know roommates aren’t totally random, but I’m still nervous. Whenever I hear my sister complain about her “roommate from hell,” I cringe.
It will all work out.
It will all work out.
It will all work out.
Love the class rings as well! So pretty! I’m buying my college counselor a college pennant for her office. She puts up one for each school of the graduating class–such a lovely tradition. Apparently it’s been a while since anyone has gone to Barnard, and she’s never had anyone go to Columbia (she’s been at the school for 20 years). I feel special.

My plane ride to NYC is in exactly 6 months!

Hahah I know I have the same fears about roommates. Hopefully it all works out though!
Six months yayyyyy!!!
