GPA: 3.4 UW, 3.8 W, school is among the most competitive public in NJ (SAT wise we're #1). I will have taken either 7 or 8 APs by the end of senior year (I'm waiting on admission to Psychology for senior year, but I can't count on it). The rest is honors, except for one year of spanish (freshman year. sophomore was honors, and junior was AP). I don't know scores for any of the AP tests yet.

SAT: 2190 (Retaking in October without a doubt)
740 CR
740 Math (I've gotten 80s on the PSAT junior/sophomore year...this sucks)
710 Writing (74/80...8 on essay, and like the math, I had a 770 junior year PSAT)

760 Math 2
710 U.S. History
Total:3660/4000

EC: Baseball, varsity 1 year, plus AAU.
I will have had two summers working at a sleepaway camp.
Habitat for Humanity, I get about 10hours of Community Service per month during the warmer seasons. This fall we're going to something like Costa Rica and building a school for underprivelaged children.
I write for the school newspaper, and the spanish newspaper.
I've volunteered for my synagogue, maybe 10-15 hours total...not major though.
I play guitar, but not for school.
Model Congress, junior & senior.
I qualified for the AIME sophomore and junior year, obviously not senior yet.
Came in third place for pre-calculus in my county math league, school came in second overall.
I tutor as well, two hours a week junior year (one in chem, one in pre-calc), will continue senior year.

I think you have a decent shot ED. My son was WL'd RD with 3780/4000 and 3.6 UW - not a well-known school though. I think the ED might have tipped him in. Bowdoin is a wonderful school, and I wish you the best!

Wow, me and you have almost identicle information and I also want to go to Bowdoin. I go to one of the best public schools in MA, similar GPA's and classes taken (both freshman and sophmore, what I will take as a Junior). I've been working at a summer camp since last summer (between 9th and 10th), I peer tutor kids, I play guitar, baseball and I have a job. Sorry to list all these things, I just thought the similarites were amazing.

Anyways, I think you have a very good chance to get into Bowdoin. Your SAT's are very good, and they are above average at Bowdoin. You do not need to retake your SAT's. A 2200 (about) is a great score, and should get you into Bowdoin. If you could improve in anything, it would be your EC's, which I need to improve in aswell. Maybe in your senior year, since your a counselor and a tutor, get involved in a Peer leadership program (if your highschool offers it). It will add to your leadership and will be another thing that will impress Bowdoin. But even if you don't do that I think you can get in.

Oh, be sure to write a looooong essay on your SAT retake.

be sure to keep the essay solid though. i made sure to fill up both pgs & i got a 9 (11 in march w/ 1.75pgs).

yea, I only wrote 1.25 pgs, which I think did in my essay. I'm not a verbose writer though, I'm more concise. Btw vitaminwater, maybe ur like my lost brother or something, what's your aim, we can keep in touch and I'll let you know where I get in so you can keep those schools in mind. And yea, 2190 is decent, but it's the lowest I've ever gotten on any PSAT/Practice exam, so I feel the need to retake. Math/writing were just too low. And thanks all.
