I am an ED I applicant, I had our records and got deferred. Everyone I know with thank you got accepted.
Hi! I’m a RD applicant. I’m still confused about the “our records” and “thank you” messages. Does this only apply to ED applicants or to RD applicants too? I applied Dec. 1, and I currently have “our records” as my message. Should I be worried or not?
I think we’ve found that: 1. everyone starts out with "our records, 2. for EDI, the change correlates with acceptance and the lack of change correlates with deny/defer, and 3. For EDII and RF, the correlation isn’t cut and dried (some who don’t get the change may still be accepted, and some who get the change may still be denied).
Does everyone agree? Anyone disagree?
so its only an EDI thing and not an EDII
To the best of my knowledge, that’s correct.
@YoungOne4 @hopeful4bu Well I have only seen one rejection on the EDII thread and that person had the “Thank you message” so I’m thinking everyone with the updated “Our records” message gets deferred and “Thank you” means either accepted or rejected. My guess for why they’d do that is because the number of acceptances and rejections would still be smaller than the amount of deferrals since the acceptance rate is so low and I think they rarely reject people since there is only one person I’ve seen that was rejected EDII last year at least so it is easier to separate the groups that way.
I think in general they do the double messages to split up the pool of applicants earlier on so they can further prevent an accidental acceptance message.
@sunflowerlover Who with the “Thank You” message got deferred?
@sunflowerlover Okay, I’m not sure if I mentioned but S in an RD applicant…The GC submitted the Mid-Year Report and transcript through the Common App last Friday, and as of Saturday the Common App said BU had downloaded it. This morning, the message on Applicant Link is different. Whereas through last Friday it said “Our records indicate…you are missing the Mid-Year Report,” now it says “Our records indicate…your application is complete.”
Do you think that change is somewhat automated (I assume the download on Saturday was automated), and do you think there is still time for the message to change to “Thank you” after a human in involved?
My son’s status has said “Thank you for your application to the College of Arts & Sciences for the September 2018 semester.” for a long time. It also says all students will need to submit mid-year grades. (He is an RD applicant) He still hasn’t submitted mid-year grades (they just came out), but he will probably be withdrawing his application and accepting his Northeastern admission soon.
@StudentParadox the person’s name was “asham” something on somewhere in pages 8-10 of the ED2 thread from last year
@YoungOne4 for RD there is no message correlation, I wouldn’t worry about it whatsoever. All that you know now and will know until decisions are released is that everything is in that is supposed to be!
@bethanylm291 congrats to your son!!! I know NEU was especially difficult to get into this application season
@StudentParadox actually the username is @Asham98 and they were rejected, not deferred
@sunflowerlover Thank you!
@ sunflowerlover. Thanks for your reassurances! I am embarrassed at how stressful this message issue is. ~O)
I want to give people an idea of my scores, so here’s my stats:
School: SHA
Major: Hospitality Administration
GPA (weighted): 3.4
SAT: 1370; 1400 superscore
5 AP classes by end of senior year
Recommendations from my job’s manager, my math teacher, and my English teacher.
Multiple people who went over my essay with me said I wrote a really good essay.
I had a job at a restaurant for one year and I babysat on the side. I am president of a film club. I volunteered at my local food bank and participated in a “cooking for a cause” club. I volunteered for my church for a year. I participated in relay for life. During the summer going into senior year, I was in BU’s high school honors program and I had toward the college once before. I was accepted into under ED I and received a full ride from BU.
I didn’t think I would get in, but I was very happily surprised. I hope this helps future applicants!
