Job Experience: Co-Director of a summer Quizbowl camp (20 hours)
Extracurriculars:
- Captain of Speech and Debate team (11-12). Ranked 15th at Nationals, Qualified to the Tournament of Champions, Reached Outstanding Distinction by the National Speech and Debate Association, Ranked 1st in the Sacramento Valley, Qualified to all four national tournaments.
- Coach/Teacher of local junior high school Quizbowl team (9-12): reached top 40 at nationals and had a top 20 scorer overall.
- Violinist for 10 years. Qualified to CODA and All-State Orchestras every year in high school, currently 3rd chair for high school symphony orchestra that is ranked first in the nation
- Business Manager for School Newspaper (12). Organize finances and am one of the three managers for high school newspaper that was awarded the Pacemaker award for excellence in journalism.
- Coordinator for Traditional Chinese Dance Group. Facility, Outreach, and Membership Coordinator for Chinese dance group. Our group ranked Diamond at Spotlight Dance Nationals, and Ruby at the local competitions.
- Track and Field. Competed 4 years for the track and field team, ranked 3rd in JV in the league, and the alternate for the 4x400 team that made the state championships.
- Reached Level 9 of the Certificate of Merit Piano Program
- Captain of the JV Tennis team (9), ranked 1st on the team.
- President and Founder of TEDxYouth Club on campus: meet weekly and organize a conference that will hopefully be held in the spring.
- Head Secretary for high school dance club. Organize meetings and give monthly dance battles for the student body.
Essays: Overall, I think they’re pretty good. Common App is pretty dope (about family struggles and how I overcame them blah blah blah), and the supplement isn’t super flowery (about my interest in brain function and communications) but I mentioned a ton of stuff and I think they got my interest in psychology.
Letter of Recs: Counselor had to be great (we have a pretty strong relationship, and I think she mentioned my background)
Other teachers were also pretty good, one of them we are pretty tight so probably 9/10, and the other had me write some of it so it was okay maybe 8/10.
