ED Chances, a little scared...

Ok, so i've been reading chances just to compare my chances, i'm a little scared but be as blunt and truthful as possible.

EXTRA CURRICULAR

Key Club (10,11,12)

National Honor Society (11,12)

Math Team (9,10,11,12 Treasurer)
- For those ppl that have never heard of VHHS, we are pretty dominant in math team. We won nationals at mu alpha theta two years in a row; my sophmore year in Hawaii, and this past summer in Colorado.
- I have various trophies from freshman year on including placing at Nationals
- AIME qualifier for the past two years

Debate (9,10,11)
- I could'nt fit it into my schedule but I still get to go to a tournament or two. - Last year, I went to nationals for Alabama in Public Forum. My partner and I broke and made it to the top 20 teams in the nation. Northwestern and Baylor were recruiting there. I'm applying to Northwestern if I dont get in ED to WashU.
- I have various awards freshman and sophomore year for LD debate. I've broken in over 10 tournaments throughout the South including many speaker awards at those tournaments.
- Special Distinction in the National Forensic League

Violin
- Alabama Youth Symphony (9,10) Quit after 10th because the quality got really bad. I was the assisstant concertmaster.
-All State Orchestra (10)
-Play for 10 years now
-Birmingham Prelude Strings Showcase Soloist (9)
-I'm thinking of sending in a tape of me playing 2 movements from Hungarian Dance. I'm also thinking of sending in a tape of me playing Butterfly Lovers, but its very... Chinese.

McWane Center Volunteers (9,10,11,12)
- Over 300 hours volunteering at the hands-on science center.
- Helped out with camps for kids and such over the summer.

Work
- Subway from Sep/05 - Summer/06
- Panera Bread from Summer/06 - Present
-Both 10 hour weeks, pretty standard, I enjoy working, it teaches me a lot about the value of money and hard work.

Interest
- I was part of the Discovery Weekend program at the end of last month. I loved my stay on campus and that is what motivated me to apply ED.
- Nominated by school for Danforth Scholarship
- I'm the only person applying ED to WashU from my school.

Ok, be as blunt/truthful as possible. Thanks to everybody who gave it a thought.

you've got a very good shot. i don't know what you're worried about.

decent chance.

What other schools are you applying to if you don't make it to Washu or Northwestern?

Both Washu and Northwestern are huge reaches for you based on your horrible SAT scores, bad GPA, not top 1-2 percent of an Alabama school, bad leadership, not national merit semifinalist, ordinary jobs, ordinary volunteer experience, and quitting violin.

Tulane kind of became my safety when they offered me a fee waiver.
Vandy, Duke, Emory, maybe UPenn

jk you have an awesome chance

your ECs are impressive, in my opinion, and your academic record looks great, except for that SAT score. The writing section is SO easy to improve upon if you learn just a few grammar rules--there are certain things that will always be in that section in some form or another, so grab a prep book and start working there. Otherwise, you look good, and ED will help.

Also, if I were you, I wouldn't send a tape... everyone here is pretty talented in the first place, and they'll be able to see your talent through your participation in youth and all-state orchestras. Regardless, impressing the music department won't matter as much in the admissions process as test scores and the such. Out of curiosity, though, Bartok's Hungarian Dances? Or something else?

Brahms, I learned it before so it shouldn't be hard to polish it a little.
Well the reason I wanted to send a tape in was because I was going to send one in anyways for the friends of music scholarship. If it won't help that much, then I guess I won't send it in.
