Possible Major: Development Studies, Philosophy, International Relations (kind of undecided)

Def retake the SAT and try to up your math score
Also, you didn’t list any, but have you taken any APs? those would help
I don’t know anything at all about your major, but you seem to have lots of EC’s, colleges might see this as packing your resume so make sure you show that you are really involved in all of them
I think that being at a “Relatively poor public” school might hurt your chances especially if you’re aren’t at the very top of your class
But definitely ED I think you stand a good chance

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/754520-chance-me-please-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

I agree with the SAT retake. Do you have a class rank, as that may impact your admission as well? Assuming a higher SAT, ok chance.

Yeah, I’m gonna try to break 2300 in November. I got a 5 on World History, 3 on Macro, 2 on Chem (probably won’t submit that last one, maybe two). World History was semi-self studied (school only offers advanced WH). As of now my rank is 2/about500. I probably won’t put ALL of the activities on so as not to look like I’m packing them.

Thanks! And I’ll be sure to chance you both back either tonight or tomorrow!

I like your ECs, do you plan on writing one of your essays on your art or community service? Your SATs are right around the average for Brown so taking them again can’t hurt. I think you have a good chance ED, and still a good shot RD.

Your SAT is fine. Really. That math score isn’t going to hold you back. A 2230 is in the top level of SAT scores and I would NOT waste time retaking it. Just prepare well for your SATIIs. Put your energy where you haven’t already succeeded!

Your level of political involvement, what with the SDS chapter (awesome!) and all these community service awards need to be a big part of your application. You are clearly already smart. But taking the initiative to start a chapter of a huge national organization is unique, whereas smartness isn’t exactly unique.

Your femaleness/upper-middle-classness/New Jerseyness aren’t going to help, but I was in a similar situation and it didn’t kill me.

I dare you to write a kickass essay about something to do with politics/public service. You have already demonstrated your passion just in that list of ECs. Now is the time to show us your favorite part.

Brown gets a real kick out of self-starters who know how to pursue what they are interested in. Seems like you have already started doing that.

^^^ agreed ur SAT is fine once u break 2200 it doesn’t rly matter anymore you should probably focus more on your ECs and gpa.
you have very nice EC but did u take any Ap classes? and is ur gpa on a 5.0 scale because a 4.44 is pretty low for brown

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/746129-plme-brown-ed-help-please-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

LOL, 4.4 is not low for Brown! At some schools, it’s impossible to break 4.3 based on the classes a school offers. Considering this OP is #2 in her class, I’m pretty sure she has a stellar GPA.

I think you would get in…Your GPA is like mine :P

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/745975-chance-me-brown-please.html</a></p>

a) Aren’t you a rising senior? Isn’t it a little late to start a new club…?

b) what a hippy commie

Maybe it is late at this point to start a club, but I think the OP, like anyone has a reasonable justification(or can fabricate one) for the circumstances. Inspiration, of course, is not always an exactly timely thing. The OP could even exhibit some mental shift that occurred in such a late stage to illustrate a mind that is still dynamic, making the case that her motivations, actions, and ideas are still blossoming. Or maybe, I’m just full of BS.

Yes, I take all AP classes (aside from gym/required “practical art”) and my GPA is on a 4.0 scale. My essay’ll probably be about my community service/politics (especially over this past summer).

The story behind my late-starting SDS chapter is that 2 advisors at GSIS were both heavily involved in the Providence SDS (one actually started Brown’s chapter). I honestly didn’t know much about it beforehand. Basically I became really interested in Brown around the same time I became really interested in SDS. What I337toast said sounds way better though.

mcgoogly (to ‘b’): thanks, though i’m not a communist (not that they’re bad).

Thanks again, eveyrone, and I’ll chance back today or tomorrow.

2200+ on the SAT’s good enough. a raising that to 2400 won’t make a difference. I’ve seen people with 2350 get rejected and 2080 get in.
