ED Chances (once more, with feeling!)

Hey, I was wondering if somebody could chance me for W&M Early Decision Application this year. I visited the school a few weeks ago and fell in love. So, without further ado:

Freshman Year:
English I Honors : B+
Spanish I Honors: A
World History I Honors: B+

(Weak, I know. This really kept me down as far as class rank.)

Sophomore Year:
English II Honors: A
Spanish II Honors: A
World History II Honors: B+
Sophomore Theology Honors: A
Geometry Honors: B+

Junior Year:

I know these grades aren't stellar, but there is an upward trend. Also, I could not take more than 3 AP courses my senior year; I ran out of AP classes.

SATS: 2340 (800 CR/740 M/800 W)
Subject Tests this weekend.

ECs:

Mock Trial

Other:
National Merit Scholar (Semifinalist currently, awaiting Finalist status)

I attend a rigorous prep school in New Jersey, and have taken the vast majority of the hardest courses my school offers. Sorry for the information overload, I'm just sort of freaking out. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks.

Applying ED definitely provides a benefit. Our ED applicant pool is approximately 1100. Our overall pool is 13,000. It’s easier for any student to stand out in a pool of 1100 than that of 13,000.

If you did max out your school’s offerings than your courses are strong and your SAT are tremendous. Your class rank is a bit weaker than many (80% of those we admit graduate in the top 10% of their high school class) but you’re in the top 15% give or take and your grades are on an upward trend which we prefer to a downward trend. You may want to submit your first quarter grades to prove your upward trend is continuing.

You didn’t provide much detail on your ECs but assuming some of those are 4-year commitments and you hold some leadership positions those look strong.

Now just spend your time conveying who you are in your ECs, essay(s) and recommendations.

Goodl luck!

Actually this applicant is not in the “top 15 percent, give or take.” He’s not even in the top 20 percent. 49th in a class of 222 is the top 22 percent, which is low for William and Mary.

But this student also has extremely high SAT scores and is a boy. So he’s in.

I am very interested in applying to William and Mary ED, but I am not in the top 10%. My grades do have a consistent, upward trend however, especially junior year. What are about my chances for ED? Here is the break-down basically:

FRESHMAN YEAR
English 1: B

Choir: A+
(I know…not promising at all)

SOPHOMORE:

JUNIOR:

SENIOR (currently)
AP Literature: A-
Precalculus: A- or A
AP Modern European History: B
French 5 College Level: A-
Spanish II: A+
Computer Applications: A+
Choir: A+

ACT: 30
Freshman to Junior year GPA: high B+ (9.7 - 12 point scale)

EC’s:

W&M isn’t chancing people anymore. They just posted about that very recently.
