Anouchi, this is a weird place to ask, but is it absolutely required to send in Sat 2 subject scores? How big of a difference does it make if you dont send them?

And Yanks, your stats are similar to mine. That being said, I will tell you that a big portion of your chance at admission is riding on how strong of an essay you write and how well you “frame” your accomplishments/extra curriculars. Make sure you really play up on your achievements and try to draw as little attention to your GPA as possible. If you are able to create a strong enough impression through your essays and other subjective aspects of the application (perhaps attach a resume), adcoms will feel compelled to keep your application clear of the rejection pile. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck, and keep the faith! lol

@Razi: it’s not required, but it is my understanding from talking to Dean Latting that “it’s like when a parent recommends you to be home before midnight, you better do it.” or something along the lines of (his or the other admissions officer’s quote). I don’t think it will hurt you too much but it’s always a plus to show proficiency in various subjects.

godda, I agree with Anouchi on this one. While OP’s SAT scores aren’t everything in the application, they still mean something. OP’s writing and CR are below the 25th percentile, and not just by a little. Even if English is OP’s 2nd language, thousands of international students from Asia and elsewhere get far above 600 writing and 540 CR. English is most likely their 2nd language as well. This doesn’t excuse OP from having a sub par SAT score.

OP has excellent ECs, supposedly great essays and recs, lots of awards and a good GPA (although UWGPA doesn’t mean much without a rank or percentile). I’d SAT scores will probably ruin his/her chances. After all, essays can only go so far in making up for the SAT score.

Btw OP, what’s your courseload for junior and senior year?

I am taking AP Stat, AP Calc AB, AP gov, College writing as my senior classes. My junior classes were Honors Physics, Honors Pre Calc. With my AP stat this year, I am actually in a regular stat class as my elective. I decided I wanted to take the AP test. My school doesn’t offer AP stat so I am meeting with my teacher a few times a week to learn the new material. I think that is also good for my chances because no everyone does what I did. I know my CR is low and I wish it was better!! But there is nothing I can do now. DO you think that I at least a decent chance?

@goddagodacollege: I’d say the OP’s shortcomings really stem from the low scores (by JHU standards), and I don’t know how much ESL will change OP’s chances for the same reason that R3d posted. And APs (I understand they’re limited at your school) are still only 3/6 AP’s offered, and one of them isn’t technically an AP according to the OP. I think it’s great that the OP is motivated to take the AP test and I’m sure JHU will appreciate that. Unfortunately, scores do play an important role in the admissions process for the OP’s case, though I think that the OP has distinguished themselves through other ventures. It really is pointless to gauge chances now, anyway, as we can only hope we all get in. Good luck yanks!

I’m very curious-did you make it with those stats? I’m looking at a 3.5 UW GPA and a 2300+ SAT score…Varsity letters in soccer and tennis, 200+ volunteer hours, some summer program this summer…wat are the odds of me getting in nxt year?
