my friend got his decision today, he got rejected but got deferred into general studies program

he applied ED and already got an acceptance (or unacceptance) letter?

yep, he told me as soon as he got it

what were his stats? was he applying to CAS? what is general studies?

Anyone else out there heard yet? I thought decisions were mailed around Dec. 15. Isn't deferral into General Studies an acceptance? Is the decision still binding if you sre deferred to GS? I hope someone out there has some info. I'm not ready to start worrying about waiting for the mail yet! I thought we had a few weeks.

Oh no! I thought I had some more time too. Are you sure you friend isn't a filthy liar?

sarahatjax, I applied too and my stats are similar to yours, but I think the school is a reach for both of us. Good luck!

yeh, it is highly unlikely that he got the decision already.

It's surprising to hear that the GSP referrals are getting notices already. It's very early for that. The E.D. agreement is not binding if your student is referred to GSP. What will happen is that the student is invited to either come in for an interview or it's done by phone, basically for the NYU rep to explain GSP, then a decision has to be made, yes or no by the student.

GSP is the general studies program. Most referrals are CAS applicants whose stats are just not quite enough to get them into CAS. If they accept GSP, they go into a two year program, where if they maintain a certain gpa they will be granted entrance into CAS in junior year. It's a small percentage who are referred to GSP and in past years, one common thread in those referred was that their SAT scores tended to be in the 1200's. That may change year by year, though. In any case, if you've been referred to GSP, it's not so much a rejection, as it is a bit of a different acceptance. :)

what does everyone else think about my chances?

I hope your chances are great because my daughter's stats are very similar! She applied ED to Gallatin.

good luck to her! i know im going crazy and we still have 3 weeks to go!! anyone have any suggestions as to how to get my mind off it?
