I sent in my application, so since there's nothing to do now until December 15th, any thoughts on how my application looks?

SAT I: took today for the first time
SAT II: 780 Lit, 700 Math, 650 US History (took it on a whim last year, didn't think I would have to send it anywhere...)
ACT: 35, took once
GPA: 4.0 UW (school doesn't weight)
Rank: 1/400 something
Senior Year Course Load: Hardest that my school offers
Awards: NMSF

Significant Extracurriculars (listed on common app):
Rotary short-term exchange student (last summer)
Varsity cross country (4 years, varsity captain)
Track (3 years)
School newspaper (2 years, news and layout editor)
Democrats club (treasurer)
Mock trial

Jobs/Work Experience: reporter for city newspaper

Volunteer/community service:
member of a community service club
led a class project to raise over a thousand dollars for charity

Essays:
Commonapp I liked a lot, it was about something pretty unique
Why Penn I didn't like as much, but my mom edited it and she loved it
Teacher rec: who knows

State: OR
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female

Looks pretty good to me, and wise to apply in ED round.

Positives: GPA + rank + one sitting ACT score. Why even take the SAT when you’ve got a 1-sit 35 on the ACT?

Negatives: SAT2 math score is acceptable but not great, and the APUSH score could definitely be a lot higher. EC leadership decent but could be stronger — doubt they’ll count “Treasurer of Democrats club” as leadership.

Key: Hoping you came across as passionate about something and driven in your essays, as your summary above doesn’t paint me that picture.

You didn’t mention AP classes but since you mentioned that courses were hardest that your school offers I assume you took several? # of them and AP scores? If AP scores were 5’s then ideally you sold that somewhere in your common app.

ivyparent:

I wouldn’t have taken the SAT except for that I needed it to be a national merit finalist haha. Not that it’ll matter if I get into Penn, but…

I took 3 APs last year and 4 this year

Is cross country captain and newspaper editor not enough leadership?

Thanks for your response!

I think you’re a smarty. and any school would be lucky to have you :)

But I think you should spend more time trying to study more for AP tests and less time following your whimsy all the way to a poor SAT US History score
