I applied to Miami as a communications major Early Decision - to help boost my chances.
Chance me?

have taken 4 APs (psych, english lang., chemistry, and micro/macro econ)

It is unlikely Miami U will accept you at all, even applying ED. Your GPA is way too low. For the entering fall 2014 class, across all majors, the average GPA was about 3.7 and average ACT roughly 28. This means that the lowest end of accepted students was probably somewhere in the range of a combined 3.5 GPA, 25 ACT, and roughly top 30% class rank. I would think your only hope would be if you live in a state with few other Miami applicants (Hawaii, Alaska, Wyoming, etc.) and/or one of your parents is a Miami alum and donates major $ regularly.

I think the OP has a chance at getting accepted…especially if he/she attended a competitive school or has an upward GPA trend. It’s difficult to tell from the brief description of the EC’s how strong the rest of OP’s application was…a great essay, strong recos, and meaningful involvement would all be positives. Looking at Naviance from my daughter’s school the majority of students with 24 ACTs and 3.0 GPAs were accepted to MU with just a few deferred…she does attend a competitive high school though.

If the OP was applying for a business major it’d be unlikely but admission for non-business programs is not as competitive (although I will also admit that I’ve never researched MU’s Communication major…always possible that there admission for that is competitive too.)

@LoveandHonor @buzzlightyear3 the admissions rep for my state and my college counselor both said I was on the cusp for being accepted early action… and I go to a top 10 rated high school by US news and world report in the state of illinois. and my gpa has only gone up since freshman year, never down.
