Low reach-GPA and test scores are good with the exception of the 3 on Physics 1. I would probably not send that, especially if you are planning to be a Physics major.
I would take SAT Subect tests in Math and Physics to bolster the application as most of your peers applying to WashU will have taken Math 2 as well. It is somewhat surprising given your BC Calc score and your SAT 1 Math score that you haven’t taken an SAT Subject test in Math unless you forgot to list it.
For AP Physics, a 5 on Physics C will get you credit and exempt you from the first class of the undergraduate sequence IIRC
Are you recruitable for tennis? That could be a hook since you made States.
Do you have more community service hours? I would not put down that 25 hours in Ecuador either. An adcom might think that’s one of those paid for by parents activity.
I would consider visiting and setting up an interview if you haven’t done so.
Also concerning physics at WashU, it is one of the least diverse departments on campus regarding faculty. There are no female tenure track faculty and one of the professors apparently made comments a few years ago which could be construed as sexist.
@Hamurtle Well that doesn’t sound too good. Luckily I am not married to physics, so I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it. I wonder if that lack of diversity might actually help my admissions chances. Regarding your previous comment, thanks for the assessment. I took some subject tests but got mediocre scores back. Planning to retake physics soon but it will not be back before the ED deadline. I could still send it later, though. Also, not recruitable for tennis and I do have more service hours. NHS and my other community service club should be plenty. Visited and had an interview last year so hopefully those things will help me too.
for anyone wondering, was accepted ED
Congratulations! Are you still considering Physics or some other major?
@hamturtle thanks! And yes considering Physics for sure but I’m still pretty undecided.
You’re in good shape with AP credits. 15 AP credits are allowed towards graduation if you get a 5 on tests.
You will get credit for Calc 1 and 2 for graduation requirements and will take Calc 3.
If you get a 5 on Physics C you will get 3 units towards the intro sequence for majors as I mentioned before. The 5 for AP Language will get 3 units once you complete the intro Writing class with a B.
