<p>Essays still need work but Recs should be fine. </p>

<p>How much of an advantage is Legacy status? According to a statistic I saw roughly 50% of legacies are accepted. That seems awfually high.</p>

<p>Your SAT's are good, but it would be better if they were a bit higher. Are you retaking them? That said, you have 3 hooks - legacy, yes, but add to that hispanic and then male. Work on those essays - they are crucial since there are no interviews, raise the SAT's and pray, because there are no guarantees in the elite admission process. Good luck!</p>

<p>Did you attend one of the Diversity weekends? If so, that's a boost that gives you a 75% chance of acceptance.</p>

<p>No I didn't but I wish I had. I didn't become interested in Amherst until late this summer. Plus it's by invitation only and I am sure there are many better qualified minority applicants out there.</p>
