Here are my stats:
Applying to Trinity
Caucasian, Male from Washington (think there are 7 people from our school applying to Duke E.D.)
SAT I: 1430
M:750 V:680
SAT II: Math IIC: 800 Chemistry: 770 Biology(M): 770 Writing: TBD Nov. 6th
GPA 3.93uw, 4.25 w Top 10% (I think I'm in lower 5%. However, it's EXTREMELY competitive).
I've taken the hardest classes.
AP tests:
Chemistry: 5
Spanish Language: 4

ECs: Key Club (Junior/Senior), VICA Vice President, Editor for sports and opinions in school paper, volunteered at hospital with a guy I know, we saw an autopsy and a medical examiner's review. Total volunteering is 400+ hours (mostly environmental projects). Had an internship at Fred Hutchinson Cancer research center for approximately 50 hours. There I learned lab procedure and was introduced to laboratory techniques such as DNA replication. State history day Soph. year. Who's Who, NHS.

Oh, will my high SAT II's balance out my lower SAT I? For some reason I just can't take that test.

Thoughts/comments?
Thanks.

Your SAT I is in the range, yeah I think your SAT IIs, which are quite good, will balance it out since it's really not that bad to begin with.
I think you have a good chance, especially early. 7 people ED fom one high school in Washington, wow, I wouldn't have expected that. I have actually met a whole bunch of kids from washington here so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but anyways, yeah your GPA is great and everything is good (you may be a bit low on leadership, but your other stuff is still good). It's been stated on this board many times, however, that Who's Who is a scam so that won't help you. The internship is good too, are you premed? Duke is a great place to be premed, especially if you are interested in doing more research.
Supposedly duke doesn't compare students from the same school, but out of the 7 others applying early from your school, would you say you're one of the better candidates?
If you do well on Writing SAT II you have a pretty nice chance.

I think I'm one of the better candidates. I know that I am most likely at the top in terms of GPA and SAT II scores.

post your stats in the early decision roster in the same forum as this one.

Lo hice=I did it. (Sorry, I had a strange inner urging to use Spanish.)

Yes! My college counselor just said that she wrote me the best recommendation of the many she has yet written. It's a happy day.

Do you go to Lakeside? I go to Prep, but im applying RD. I'd say you have as good a chance as anybody - 50% ish. Good Luck!
