ED Chances

Because there's never enough of these threads :)

Okay, here goes:

SAT I : 2240 (700 Math/800 Verbal/ 740 Writing)
SAT II: Taking Chemistry (or Physics), Lit and Math II in Oct.

GPA : 3.8 Unweighted, ~4.5 Weighted

Class Rank: Listed by Counselor as Top 1% out of 6000-something students (ranking for Pinellas County). Individual rank is not given by my school because my HS IB Program is so competetive that a 4.3 Weighted GPA is the bottom half of the class in my program.

Class Schedule is toughest offered (IB Classes)
I can post my actual classes but there's nothing I can/could have done to take more difficult classes. And between my EC's and Homework, I don't have time to take additional classes outside of school.

AP Scores:
English 5
Physics B 4
Calculus AB 4
European History 4
Chemistry 4

Awards:
National Merit Semifinalist (Finalist/Winner Pending)
AP Scholar With Distinction
Other minor awards

EC's
-5 Years of Fencing, trained by a Olympic Silver Medalist and former Bolgarian National Champion. I'm a proficient Foilist, and considerably skilled with an Epee. I'm really hoping to fence for Princeton, mostly so I can stick it to Columbia.
-4 Years Mu Alpha Theta - I've been a member and competitor for 4 years. No major awards (state/nationals) however, due mostly to waning interest. Some awards for Regionals and Individual competitions.
-4 Years of French Club
-3 Years French Honor Society
-2 Drama Club, I'm active as a Set Builder and on House Crew. My interest particularly lies in the writing aspect and I spend several hours each week writing and revising plays for Districts in January.
-2 Years Film Club, Much like an optional English class for films, we watch and study films, techniques, meaning, etc. Additionally, we've filmed some independent films.
-1 Year Physics Club Vice-President and Founding Member. The club dissolved last year and has been recreated with an entirely new aim and leadership. I'm VP and also Chairman for the Pumpkin Launch and Trebuchet Design and Construction Committee.

Additonally, I'm a prolific writer with a HD full of stories and a desk full of rejection slips. ;)

Community Service
I have some 150+ Documented hours so far, and will have even more by the time I finish my application. At graduation, I will have at least the required 225 hours, and there's a good chance I'll have more.

Communty service Includes:
- Mathematics Tutoring at a nearby Middle School
- Summer Service at the Library working with the children's program.
- Computer Literacy tutoring at the local Library
- Electronic Media design for math classes at a middle school to keep the students motivated, up to date, etc.

Work Experiance
-I spent a year and a half working as a busboy at a restaruant during my sophomore and early junior year.
-My major hook here, I've spent the last year working at Virgo Lightning Optics Corp. as a Crystal Engineering Intern and a Crystallographic Researcher. My credentials from corporate are strong; I've worked with both theoretical and applied science in the R+D department. I developed a computer program for reusing failed crystals which has cut costs by around $10 000/year in raw materials and actually produces purer crystals than inital-run production. Since then I have worked on two research projects, created by my own hand with advising from my boss. I initiated the program after seeing some patterns in data we had obtained. Further research has yielded a detection system and a set of equations for determining Neodymium concentration in Yttrium Vanadate crystal. There are two other processes for the same purpose that the company employs, however mine is the most accurate and precise to date, offering reliable concentrations to two decimal places in a percentage (reliable to .01% concentration). The process is very tight and yields very repeatable results under standard conditions and polarization (all controllable). A secondary research project for my senior thesis in Chemistry has yielded the start of another process for determining chromium concentration which is currently impossible through empirical methods, and we are forced to rely on theoretical calculations. All of this is, of course, being backed up by my boss on my resume. I am currently working on the process documentation for the system so that it can be used by anyone within the corporation and possibly for a patent (corporate-owned, unfortunetly).

Thanks for the advice,
James

Make sure you contact the Princeton coach about fencing!!!
