ED class of 2017 user account/pin code

Thanks for the info, the thin envelope would have freaked my son out.

My D received her acceptance letter on exactly December 15th last year. There was no mistaking it , it was a very large envelope that had CONGRATULATIONS in maroon across the front on the outside of the envelope… You could see the congratulations from across the street when the mailman put it in our box.
I am pretty sure those little pin # envelopes came out at least 10 days before, because I know we clearly knew it was not a rejection/acceptance letter. Bates is a very hands on ,personal kind of school. The downside is they don’t process information all that quickly. No joke about the mail service my daughter still hasn’t gotten her Holiday card and it was mailed 9 days ago from the NYC metro area. Things take forever to get back and forth to Lewiston!

That being said, my daughter LOVES Bates and can’t imagine being anywhere else. I have heard it is a large ED pool this year, but Bates loves its ED 1 applicants and always takes a large % of the class from the ED1 pool.
So good luck, if accepted you wont regret it,few do!

My son received his pin today - whew! And yes, I had the same thought as others. thank goodness we knew the pin info was coming as the mailing was tiny! Good luck everyone.

The PIN letter arrived yesterday. All receiving the PIN did was make my daughter more hysterical and nervous, Me? Well, I was just happy to get some confirmation that Bates had actually received her application

Now the real waiting begins. I will, no doubt, be scanning the mail from a safe distance, checking for a large envelope that says “Congratulations”.

as an international student, i don’t expect my pin soon. i think it will take some time. well, that doesn’t matter anymore. just waiting for the decision. sooooooo anxious. best of luck everyone !!! :)

Hi, Last year I applied RD to Bates College with a 2030 SAT score ( 660 M, 650 CR, 720 W ), no interview and an average essay so I was wait listed.

This year I have applied ED1, improved my SAT scores to 2150 ( 700 M, 730 CR, 720 W ), had a good interview and written better essays. ( My interviewer also said that my essays were well written and interesting! ).

So have I improved my chances of getting accepted?

I am a full aid asking international by the way! ( I know this fact is almost a nail in the coffin. :frowning: )

@Stressfactory, I am a freshman here now and everyone who I’ve talked to who applied ED1 last year received their letters on time or even before the anticipated date. Bates seems to be pretty good about this sort of thing. Good luck to everyone!

The tension at our house has increased dramatically as my daughter’s friends, one by one, are all being accepted to their ED schools. I am banking on a little mercy from the Bates Admissions Office and that the decision letters arrive before school lets out for winter break. Knowing the verdict, either way, will be better than all this anxiety.

I was just thinking the same after getting a litany of “Katherine’s going to Harvard, John’s going to Cornell”. All the while I’m living with Mr. Grumpy.

My S is so easy going. I am the one who is all worked up. He has had to tell coaches at other schools that he applied ED to Bates. Some coaches have been understanding and others have been very rude, one even hung up on him after he told him. I just pray we get good news soon. It is killing me!

My daughter is also an athlete and while she had a “very positive” early read with admissions, and “everything is on track”, all this waiting is still torture. We were all pretty calm about the whole thing until other schools started accepting kids ED. Since Bates is on the late side with the decisions, it does give you a lot of extra time to obsess. That and the fact that we are relying on the US Mail at the busiest time of the year.

Let’s face it. You aren’t in until you’re in. My daughter will not take a breath until she has that letter in her hot little hands.

We’re in the exact same boat - my son is an athlete, is being “strongly recommended” by the coach there, has great grades with a tough schedule of classes. But you never know! Here’s hoping for all our guys.

To crank up the nerves a bit, my ED1 daughter got an email from the Bates crew coach (she is a serious h.s. rower, but by no means a recruited athlete). They set up a call over the weekend to talk about her interest in rowing in college and “to hear more about why Bates is her first choice.” This has got to mean she is on the admit/deny bubble, right? Any thoughts for how to handle the call appreciated.

Did your daughter fill out an athletics form when she applied? If so, I know those forms are forwarded on to the appropriate coaches and the rowing coach may just be following up on the form. I wouldn’t read too much into Thr phone call as I suspect that at this point most, if not all, admissions decisions have already been made.

when do the decisions come out?

btw , does anyone know how international students will be notified?

by e-mails I believe. Crap the nervousness has got me.

same here man , same here , its scary

I called up Bates College, they haven’t yet decided to email the international students their decisions but they are definately considering the idea.

Regular mail takes atleast 3 weeks to reach India, so if they don’t email the decisions, is there any other way of knowing the decisions?
