I am planning on applying to either Carnegie Mellon or Cornell early decision. I am interested in majoring in computer science. I am unsure which to apply for ED. CMU has an extremely large cs program and is ranked #1. Cornell however is an ivy league school. Graduating from there will give me the "Ivy name". I am currently interested in going to grad school after school, but I am not completely sure. I cannot choose both of these, so which one should I apply to early decision?

You can’t go wrong with either one for CS. What else matters to you? These are very different types of colleges.

When we visited CMU they were one of the few schools that very assertively confirmed that ED applicants get substantially more financial aid. Don’t know if that’s a factor for you but just FYI.

Financial aid is not a big factor in my decision. I am pretty set on cs and am leaning towards CMU, but I am unsure. I do not really care about location. Is CMU better for doing undergrad research? Also, how is the perception of CMU grads as opposed to Cornell grads (for cs)?

If you have the stats to get into CMU CS and the money to go, then I would go there. Here are the stats for reference:
CR: 720-780 Math: 780-800 Wr: 720-780 Rank: 5% GPA: 3.85
