Do you know of any colleges that allow prospective students to apply early decision to more than one college? The only one I can think of is MIT.

University of Chicago

The University of Chicago does not have an Early Decision program. They have an Early Action program. Two very different animals.

Early Decision is ALWAYS limited to just ONE college. Apply to more than one college ED and you're in trouble. This is because, if you're accepted ED you are basically locked into attending, no matter where else you have been accepted.

Early ACTION, however, is a different story. Beyond the handful of schools that have Single Choice Early Action, there are quite a few that allow you to apply EA to more than one school. When you are accepted EA, you are not required to withdraw applications from other schools and you have until May 1 in most cases to decide where you will actually attend.

Making things even more complicated, there are a handful of schools that offer BOTH ED and EA. Sheesh!

A few important things to keep in mind about EA: while it does let you find out early in the year if you've gotten in, it doesn't always boost your chances. Some schools take a significantly smaller percentage of EA applicants than they do during the regular decision round, and other schools take about the same percentage, so it is important to get the full story before deciding to go this route. It is, however, a nice thing to have an EA acceptance in your pocket from a match or saftey school before Christmas.

Thanks for the heads up carolyn.
