Ed countdown

13 days! EEEKKK!

Activity #21. Make a list of reasons for why you won’t get into Barnard to keep yourself in check. (I really like that idea, Gloria!)

Emilina, I believe they are supposed to be mailed on the 15th, but some decisions were received earlier than that last year.

I just found this thread and love it  It’s good to know that other ED applicants are freaking out and waiting for the time to pass.

Gerf, welcome to the anxiety thread. I’m crossing my fingers for all of you!

So when should we really be expecting letters of acceptance or rejection?

That question has been asked so many times, I think we should start a new thread dedicated to it, so people can easily find it.

12 days, guys. 12 days. I’m going to try hard and not hyperventilate.

22. Share where else you’re applying to and how far along you are with those applications. (You know, in case we don’t get into Barnard and all . . .)

yay! 12 days!!
Okay so I’m almost done with the rest of my applications, but since I already applied ED to Barnard I have no motivation to finish them. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m applying to ten total.

Smith College - submitted
Boston College - submitted
Boston University - need to finish supplement essays
Tufts - supplement essays
Columbia University - submitted
Goucher college - submitted
University of Chicago - submitted
Pitzer - supp. essays (this is my 2nd favorite after Barnard)
Claremont McKenna - submitted

So yeah, I’m almost done!
I can’t wait to find out, maybe I can get out of finishing my 3 supplements that I have left.

Barnard College- finished, submitted
Bates College- 1 supplement
Bowdoin College- finished, waiting to submit
Hamilton College- 1 supplement
Middlebury College- complete, submitting Monday
Skidmore College- editing supplements

… Nothing quite as exciting as Barnard! :</p>

Barnard College- submitted, decision coming soon!
Ursinus College- ADMITTED (but sooo not going there)
Fordham University- submitted, decision coming soon!

Bryn Mawr College (probs my 2nd choice after Barnard)- have to finish supplement
Wellesley College- have to finish supplement

And if ED doesn’t work out, I plan to also apply to Vassar, Pomona (/Scripps?), Trinity, Bard, Johns Hopkins, or Wesleyan. (Obviously not all, I’ll have to choose depending on where else I get in).

12 days!

Activity #22. Tell us the quirkiest thing about yourself.

P.S. I have a list of colleges, but I won’t share it here because I think I’m going to change it completely. I want to apply to more women’s schools, etc. Am for sure applying to Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, and NYU.

11 days!!

Activity #23: Make a list of all the really cool things about the other schools you are applying to. It might put your mind at ease, sort of like, “In case I don’t get in to Barnard, I would love it here to!”

For instance, I really love the whole feel of the Claremont consortium in So.Cal., and I would really enjoy the housing at Smith I think. Plus, Massachusetts is gorgeous in the fall and winter.

Gerf, are you an international student? Lol. Because it’s really 12 days for me . . . still, for at least another 3-4 hours.

22 is puzzling me! I don’t know if I can name the quirkiest thing about me, but my last name actually is christmas in another language, which accounts for my screen name. Hmm… what else is quirky about me?

23- I really like both Bates and Bowdoin’s campuses, but I hate that they’re in bubbles.

Gerf, I live very close to Northampton and I’ve studied/done research at their library before. Smith is incredible and has a very warm community, not to mention that Northampton itself is such a cultural city.

ACTIVITY #24: NAME ALL THE THINGS YOU LOVE/ENJOY THAT START WITH THE LETTER ‘M.’

I love mugs of tea, mittens, middle of the night inspiration, music, , manhattan (i didn’t even plan this…), macaroons, memories, macbook computers, movie theaters, madeline, mangos, and masquerades.

(okay, M was more difficult than I expected.)

wej- she could be an international student, but it also depends on whether/not you count today and whether/not you count the 15th. According to Eastern Standard Time, in 11 days (11*24=264 hours) it will be 10:48 pm on December 15th. If we were to receive decisions on that day, we would already have them at that point.

Activity 22- I play the bassoon (and various other musical devices). It’s a pretty quirky instrument.

Activity 23- Of course no school is as fitting as Barnard, but I really like the women’s college aspect and the affiliation with another coed institution. Hence, I like Bryn Mawr. Massachusetts is a little too far/cold for me, but otherwise I’d probably like schools up there too. I love the Claremont Consortium, but I’d rather stay not be forced to fly to school (who know what’ll happen with airlines nowadays?! At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if they charged you for carry-on.)

Activity 24- Mooses. (That’s it).

wej - lol no I am not an international student, I’m from Illinois. I just don’t count the 15th, so it’s 11 for me.

22 - I refuse to wear socks that are NOT mismatched. Matching socks bore me haha

24 - meditating, Manhatten, mice, mints, music, Molly (from the big comfy couch, haha), Minkus (from Boy Meets World), May, chocolate milk, maroon… okay some of these are a stretch. Good one!

Oh and Gloriachristmas that’s really cool! I’ve only been to Massachusetts once, and it was only long enough to tour Smith’s campus. So it’s good to know that the town is really nice.

Gerf- You’re a mediator too?? Shweet!

**TEN DAYS **

Ten days, people. I wish I could just sit around, google Barnard and Paris, but unfortunately my diabolical teachers have piled a bunch of last-minute assessments due on Monday and Tuesday, in addition to my five midterms and two final-research projects. So off to the library for me.

I’m also extremely worried. Checked my application tracker and they haven’t listed my transcript, recs, or SAT scores. These were sent out more than a month ago, I don’t understand. Nor have they emailed me.

p.s. also, for our ten-day countdown, we should bold all numbers (see above) from now on, eh?

So I took another round of SAT II’s in November (Lit and Chinese w/ Listening) which are the ones that I sent to Barnard via CollegeBoard like the day they were made available online. On the website/etc. Barnard says that those scores usually come in on time for them to evaluate for ED applicants - however, I would strongly recommend checking up on those if you took them in November. I asked my college counselor a question about the Nov SAT II scores and she said she had just gotten a message or something from a Barnard rep looking for my SAT II scores, even though I’d requested them to be sent the day they were made available online. I think that they become available to schools like Dec 1 officially, but my college counselor told me to send her the scores so she could expedite the process because Barnard said they wanted them sooner than that.

Anyways, just thought I’d share!

10 days!

wow! 10 days? it still doesn’t feel like this is really happening…

Find the most interesting-looking course(s) at Barnard.

For me, it’s between “Mafia Movies: From Sicily to The Sopranos”, “Mass Media and American Democracy”, and “Social Life in Ancient Egypt”

Gerf- I love that you said Molly from the Big Comfy Couch. That was my favorite show when I was younger!

And Kiwi-- “google Barnard and Paris,” THAT IS THE STORY OF MY LIFE. Are you going to study french in college? I would love to double major or minor in french. This spring I’m traveling to France; Paris is the first city that I’m visiting and it’s my mecca.

I have a friend who currently goes to Barnard and she’s taking an anthropology course called “The Road” in which they discuss the significance of the road in American culture, read books such as “On the Road,” and listen to music. (I’m going to go through the course catalogue and pick another later, too!)
