It's fair to emphasize some of the stronger aspects of yale, but I don't think it's fair to try to sell it as located in a vibrant college town. The city has drastically improved over the past 10 years, but it's hardly the ideal "college town" for a student to study in. I've been to Yale and the New Haven area several times - the area around the immediate campus might generally be nice, but you're still living in New Haven - it's a damper compared to NY or Boston.

And I'm sure that Yale students constantly socialize with the 50,000 other students from albertus magnus college, southern CT state U, and the University of New Haven...

oh god here's my SAT score (1st time)
CR/Math/WR: 720/750/710 (essay 11)

):

do you guys think this score is gonna hurt my chance? i mean normally i get 790~800 for Math but i dont know what happened -__- must be some careless mistakes...

Naah, it's good. And please, please take anything that posterX says with a whole shaker of salt - he's infamous on these boards for his overly-biased (and sometimes factually incorrect) partisanship for Yale.

It doesn't matter WHAT college is easy to get into. What matters where YOU want to go. And if you are just applying to Dartmouth because it is easy to get into - DON'T. Sometimes people who really want to attend Dartmouth are left out.

Nope i'm definitely NOT applying to Dartmouth JUST BECAUSE it's easy to get in. Because it's not.
I'm choosing between Dartmouth and Yale for ED/EA and one thing about D is tt it's easiER to get in :)

@Professor101: Yeah maybe i'll retake in Oct. I took about 10 practice tests and scores consistently range frm 2270-2330 ?

But thing is i'm not sure if i take again i'll get that kind of score for essay ! lol i'm the kind of person who can ONLY WRITE FOR CERTAIN TOPICS. this time round at least it was "Do events in the past continue to influence the present" --> at least can still come up with some crap about the Vietnam War and stuff. If next time unlucky n landed some weird question tt i'm unfamiliar with --> i'll just be stunned and DIE

Anyway 11 was surprising. I thought the essay wasn't really good (i didn't do any practice essay either), and it was really short. barely reached the mid-page second page, and i only gave like two points which hardly connect..

There's another thing, CARELESS MISTAKES for Math. I finished so darn early? Like i used only half the time allocated YET still made 3 mistakes (3 or 4 mistakes should account for the 50 marks lost). I even checked my answers (that doesnt happen a lot) so i'm worried if i take again I'll make careless mistakes again -__-

Urgh in another dilemma. Retake or not. -- I think i will. this score is def. not satisfactory. (my heart kinda sank when i saw the 750 for math, i couldnt see the rest of the scores for a while --)

But then its gonna be darn rushed. And i will HAVE to make sure its good (PRESSURE). October for SAT I and November for the remaining SAT IIs. And there's GCE A Levels. Terrible year-end ahead GOSH

Yeah. Pre-College application season tends to suck.

I second the 2300+ suggestion. Dartmouth seems to be one of those schools who cares significantly about the SAT. I mean, if you have a really strong application (lots of leadership and something quirky and interesting), I doubt a 22something would really detract from your chances. However, if you're like me, with a good resume, but nothing too special -- a high SAT really helps.

I think I still have everything up on Stats.
