Hi, just a reminder to anyone planning to apply ED. The deadline is 11/15, next Thursday. If you are planning to apply ED, what major or college is your first choice? My daughter is applying ED to the College of Art. Her second choice is Arts & Sciences. Good luck all EDers!

I'm applying ED to Engineering

how many people usually apply early decision? whats the acceptance rate? is it easier to get in early decision?

I don't how many apply ED. The guy at my information session said the acceptance rate was about the same as the regular admissions rate at ~20%, which I think is bogus.

Hi Fun. You think the acceptance rate is significantly higher for ED ? I used to think so but lately, many admiss. counselors claim that it is about the same. I would think that it is to the school's advantage to encourage the best students to apply ED ..... if for no other reason, than to increase their "yield". Then again,....

I heard they take 1/3 of the ED applicants

Last year more than 2/3 applicants were accepted, just a few went to RD and the rest rejected.

newhere: forgive my stupidity, but if there is a 66% acceptance rate ED, and the overall selectivity was about 18%? how does that work out for RD? Is there a negative acceptance rate for RD? Your 66% doesn't make sense, unless they had VERY FEW people apply ED....How many applied ED? How many were accepted ED? Finally, without a CDS, how do you get the information?

BTW, if you are actually correct, that would explain their obscene yield #'s.....

newhere - Like rodney says - The numbers you quote don't make any sense. They are also completely different than any numbers I have seen or heard about ED at WashU. Would you please share the source that you based the above post on.

Yes, newhere, I'd be curious where you heard that statistic, too. That would be great if it were true. What I have heard is that about a third of the freshman class typically comes from the ED applicant pool. I have never seen any reference to the number of students that apply ED though.

I also heard last year they didn’t have as many ED as years before. Maybe that’s the reason why they accepted that much, I know they did that in Business and Art, I don’t know about the other schools. Kids with 2000 SAT were accepted ED.

WUSTL is always mysterious with numbers and other information; they keep it very confidential.
Last year my D applied ED and the class was pretty much formed by December. I would guess more than 40% was already in; other schools could differ.

Numbers should be quoted when there is something to back them up - not just something that someone may have heard someone else say. WashU may have had less ED applications because they eliminated EDII. But to claim 2/3 ED acceptance is just not reponsible. Considering that their SAT 25%-75% percentile is 1360 - 1520, why would anyone be surprised about some 2000 SAT students being accepted. Old SAT interpolates to 2040 -2280 new SAT.

I asked a representative that came to my school, and he said that the acceptance rate for early decision was between 20-40%. It was annoying that I got such a large range, but it just proves they are secretive about this sort of thing. But after I thought about it, I realized that since there are much less people applying ED than RD, even if the ED acceptance rate is 20% (about the same as the overall acceptance rate), it probably plays in your favor to apply ED. Even so, I really do believe they take a greater percentage of the people ED, simply because they know you are making a commitment to them. A lot of RD students apply to Wash U as a backup for an ivy league school, and that apparently angers them.

Oh, and I am applying ED for English/writing
