Now that the worst has happened, what's our next move?
What can we do to make ourselves look even better for round 2?
Retaking tests, essays, recommendations, personal letters?

Anybody have any ideas?

sharpen up! their isnt much you can do unless you wanna take SAT/ACT all over

are we even allowed to retake them this late in the game?

oh no dang... the last applicable test date was this past saturday :(

this is from the FAQ section for deferred applicants-

What does it mean to be deferred?
When the Admission Committee wishes to see more information before making a final decision on an applicant in Early Decision, it defers the applicant into the Regular Decision plan.
This allows time for more information to be added to the file, for example, updated senior grades, updated testing from January test administrations, updates on honors and accomplishments during the senior year, etc.

updated testing from January test administrations?
do we get to retake?
what does that mean?

That seems contradictory because the last applicable test date for RD applicants is December 12th

yeah i don't get it either
i think i'll call the office of admissions tomorrow morning and find out

Gosh alot of Houston kids got flat out rejected i feel bad now

i almost wish i had gotten rejected.
this wait is going to be torture for me.
i had a stress-induced rash all last week because of rice, and now i get to enjoy it for another 4 months.
woo

Oh don't worry,
I've gotten past physically sick all week.
No food has stayed down in my stomach.

But hey, we're making it!

check out the "Ask the Dean" section of the College Confidential website.

How many people get deferred from early decision? And what are my chances now?

Last year I think very few (10 or so, maybe less) people got deferred... so if you got deferred I think you still have a great shot. It's not like MIT where everyone and their mother gets deferred from EA... Rice only defers those they are seriously considering.
