Times3-I was afraid that if you applied ED, you would receive NO merit/talent award because your saying, “This is my #1, I will attend” meaning, they don’t have to entice you by offering money, your committing to them and withdrawing your applications elsewhere.

The flip side, SField, is that they want you so much they may be willing to sweeten the pot more than they would for an RD applicant. By accepting someone ED, the school is indicating you are their top choice as well.

Great glad to hear! Thanks!

Thanks for the perspective, photomom5! My thinking was the same as SField.

LeftofPisa, Your statements sound just like what was stated in a letter we received from Muhlenberg when we wrote to them upon finding out about her wait list status. What will make her application this year stronger than her application last year? What can she bring to the table from her experiences this past year?
What do you mean by “tips”?

viva- I’m sorry but I really don’t have any insight into what would make your daughter’s application stronger. It sounds like her academics are very good.

“Tips” is a term used in college athletic recruiting referring to a coach being able to influence the admissions process for a few of their recruits. It isn’t a theater term.

I was only saying your ?'s were exactly what was in an email we received from the school,
Just thought it was strange to hear the same exact ?'s to my post.
There will a number of additions to what she will show from her experiences from taking a gap year. Even though she isn’t going to take college courses , she is going to be doing activities that will enrich her experience in the world of theatre - she is doing a internship with a professional theatre company and will be assisting a prestigious director.

As of tonight, the decision was reached not to reapply either EA or RD to Muhlenberg.
It came to light that the fit wouldn’t be right. After a very nice honest discussion as to whether to reapply, the director felt that my daughter who is talented should be looking at a more rigorous acting program. Because she really likes performing Shakespeare. More acting training with continued private voice & taking dance classes. Not go for musical theater. Which is what she had already come to the conclusion as what would be the best training for her. She needs to be in a more cosmopolitan environment.

I bet you’re feeling glad right now that she took that gap year! :)

Yay for lightbulbs going on vivahg!!! Sounds like a real plan and there’s plenty of time to work toward it!

Her new application will show all the things she has been doing in the meantime. That makes it stronger.

Plus, now she has more experience of the process (and specifically Muhlenberg’s process) she will be able to give a better audition.

KEVP

It must be a relief to be past that decision. It sounds like she has a great year lined up and those experiences will serve her well as she goes through the application and audition process. Good luck to her!
