ED/EA and Midyear Report?

Hi, everyone.

I have a quick question regarding Early Decision/Action applications and school midyear reports/transcripts. If I apply ED/EA, is there any way that they can or will take into account your midyear report? Or do the reports come out too late for Early schools to consider them? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, I'm just somewhat confused.

Thank you.

Mid-year reports are sent after ED/EA decisions are released. You still need to send them in if you are accepted/deferred though.

All right, thanks. So if you are counting on a midyear report to boost your GPA, it wouldn't do so with an early application, then?

As a rule, mid year grades come out after the early decisions are already made and released. Mid year is usually in January, early decisions are sent out in December. There are exceptions. Holy cross has a later early decision date, I noticed so that mid year reports might come into play. Also for ED2, those reports could be important.

If you want a grade boost in your early apps, you can request your first quarter grades to be sent to the colleges. Those grades just might be available before the decisions are made. But even then, when you consider that the early letters are released around mid December, you know that the decisions might actually be made in mid November because many adcoms want to go into Thanksgiving weekend with the decisions made, and the job of writing the letters, checking the letters, sending oout the letters to be done in early December. By that time, the paperwork is going to be pouring in for the regular apps, so logistically, I don't know if anyone is going to hold the show for those quarter grades that may not be out until mid November. If the adcoms want to see further performance, it would just be easier to defer the decision to RD when the mid year reports are available. However, I know that my sons' schools did send out an announcement from the GC's saying that quarter grades can be sent to colleges upon request, so I know that it is sometimes done.

Thanks, that's some very helpful information.

So, my question now comes down to this: Would it be more advantageous to wait until RD to get that mid-year report into my application and raise my GPA, or go ahead and do ED/EA with a smaller applicant pool but lesser GPA?
