Is it legal and ok to apply to ED and EA schools as long as I only have 1 ED school and the EA schools are non-binding and not single choice?

So like this:
University of Pennsylvania - ED
UChicago - EA
Case Western - EA
Maryland - Priority

^^wrong. some schools do not allow you to apply EA if you have applied ED elsewhere. Check school policies on each.

Alright thank you.

I checked with each college and they’re ok with it. I’m gonna run it by my college counselor though.

Another question, if this is allowed then why isn’t everyone doing as many EA and 1 ED school?

^^at some schools its more competitive and can be seen as a waste of money if they expect to be accepted ED. i’ve heard stories where EA can sometimes cheat you out of financial aid, but some schools give more aid if you apply EA.

“why isn’t everyone doing as many EA and 1 ED school”

It’s tough to get all the apps done in time, and some what their first semester grades to be considered.

Depending on the policies, you can try to do such things.

If you read ED agreement, it said nothing about apply EA to other schools, so I think generally it is ok to apply to 1 ED and multiple EAs as long as none of them is SCEA. In fact, I have not heard of any school that does not allow applying to other schools after applying ED there. UPenn is definitely not one of them.

As stated by others, ED policies vary by school. For example, EA applications to other schools are NOT allowed when you apply ED to Brown.
