ED EE+CS or just CS?

Should I ED for EE + CS integrated or for CS (so basically do I ED to the College of Engineering or to the School of Computer Science)?

I feel that I have better chances if I apply for EE+CS as ED but I’m kind of torn.
My GPA is too low I feel for CSC (it is a 3.81) and a bit low for EE+CS, but I’m hoping my test scores help (35 ACT (34 Reading 35 Eng 35 Math 35 Sci and 800 Math II 800 Physics)

Thanks in advance!

There is no EE major at CMU (pretty sure), only ECE, and I’m pretty sure that you have to pick either ECE or CS when you get admitted, not both.

In terms of chances, ECE is easier to get in. However, transferring into SCS is also difficult if you decide to change your mind.

My bad, by EE + CS integrated I meant ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering).

So if I get admitted under ECE do I have the option to pick CS? Or am I only going under ECE?

Thanks in advance!

No, you have to pick ECE if you are admitted to ECE College of Engineering.

Oh ok. Thank you! I’ve decided on ECE then.

Oh an another question: If you do not get ECE ED but you picked 3 options (I did ECE, SC and Mechanical engineering) does that mean I can still get accepted to SC or Mechanical Engineering under ED? Or would they be counted as my RD choices?

@shumpu123 you can only apply for one major under ED

Well, I’m RD’ing CMU now

My son was rejected by ECE and waitlisted for CS, so its not easier for some boys to get into ECE. Many factors play into an acceptance at Carnegie Mellon. Interest in the field plays in. So my son was clearly going to go to a CS department, based on his essays and summer school classes, thus he was rejected by ECE. I know a girl, from California, accepted RD to both ECE and CS so it is possible to get accepted to two departments at Carnegie Mellon and have a choice too, Good luck.
