ED effect on Echols/Rodman/Jefferson

I heard somewhere that if someone applies Early Decision, and consequently is admitted Early, are going to be pretty much unconsidered for any of these programs/scholarships because the whole objective of these programs is to entice top students away from Ivy League and other "Elite" Universities, so the logic is an ED student already really wants to go to UVA, and thus they don't need to be lured by these programs. (what a run-on sentence) Does anyone know if there is any validity to this, or if it differs between the programs and whatnot?

That may be part of the objective, but it's not entirely true. Both my roommate from last year and I are EDers who got Echols. Generally, I would assume most of the qualified Echols Scholars would be in the RD pool.

Someone from my highscool was accepted ED last year and was Echols. So if you are truely qualified, I don' think there is any problem at all. Your general premise that Echols and Rodam try and lure the top students does make sense though.

My son and another student from his school were offered Echols, and they both applied ED.

UVA stresses, including on their echols page, that it doesn't matter if you apply ED or RD.
