Hey, I've got a question. Do people admitted under early decision generally find their financial aid packages to be sufficient? I'm worried that since I'm applying early decision to Pomona, I might get gipped because I won't be able to use other schools as "bargaining" chips to get more finaid. Just wondering!

Listen Carefully:

IF MONEY IS ANY KIND OF ISSUE< DO NOT APPLY ED!!!

this point has literally been beaten to death.

If you need to compare packages, you should apply RD

If you think your parents will have a problem paying EFC- apply RD

Well, recently I've been thinking that the whole comparing packages thing only really gets you a good package for your first year..... wouldn't it be smarter to go to a school that consistently gives adequate financial aid packages throughout a student's college education? Or does the first year kind of set the pace for the next three years? Thanks!

The first year package does tend to set the pace for the next 3 years. Most of the time, you will get the largest award freshman year. Though there are a few schools with the rep of welching on future years' aid packages more drastically than others, I have not seen an official list of any stats about that situation. It seems to me that the schools that are the most consistent about aid are the most selective schools where kids tend to go even if their packages are not the most generous.
