also if anyone could please help me out with what schools truly consider racial status in the college admissions process.

Your strength of schedule is very good - lots of AP’s… Your class rank/grades are okay. Your scores are (to me) the weakest part of the academic side of your stats.

Your EC’s seem to me to be pretty good - the hydrogen car race seems pretty unique. I think they’ll like that.

I’m not sure I’d list Lifeguard Certification as an award - just whatever job or volunteering you did that used your certification.

I’m not sure what you mean by “truly consider racial status.” I don’t think being an URM is going to give you that much of an edge anywhere. Secondly, and this is a side issue, “Hispanic” is not a race. It’s a term coined by the 1970 US Census to lump together people of several distinct Spanish-speaking cultures/origin that represented a growing minority of the population. The US OMB currently defines hispanic as:

[quote]
A person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race./quote http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/fedreg_1997standards/</a> It’s kind of a long page. Search for “Categories and Definitions”.

thank you for the reply…
yes i know it is a descent not race, but AA, from what i have heard, takes a role in admissions at certain schools…right?

captain of varsity soccer in a soccer crazy state
30 ACT
holds a J O B for money…and for love it seems at Tropicana Field

I say, take your ACT again in October…not sure the next date meets the Vandy ED deadline–check on that…but if it does…take it again then…study study your weak section and try to ace your strong sections…remember they judge ACT on best Sitting…they do not superscore.

If you want to go to a reach school, ramp it up on the ACT is my best advice. You might surprise yourself and the payoff is rather big if you do. Get that red book and start doing your worst section over and over. There are kids at Vandy with your current ACTs. But if you want to show them something that your GPA won’t show them…work on the ACT more. Since it is too late to up your GPA…work on the thing you have some control over now. Also, adcoms can be forgiving of immature high school freshman if you give them two sentences on when you woke up re study habits…not uncommon at all for one year to be lower.

If Vandy is your top choice, apply ED and write great essays…dig deep on those.

GOOD LUCK!!

Tell your story and speak out clearly to your references on your dreams…

You are in.
