So basically, very long story but I'm ****ed for housing for this summer and next year. I have some job offers with profs for the summer, but without housing I can't take them, and without regular housing I can't return to Berkeley next year.

It's too late to get on-campus housing and everything I can get by myself is way too expensive. Too late to get a new roommate since all my friends have already gotten a place (since I was assured I'd have housing...). My parents aren't giving me any money, and I don't have any saved up myself. Anyone have ideas that could help me out? Thank you very much in advance.

As far as the summer goes, I have to believe that there ought to be numerous summer sublets available that will be relatively cheap. After all, a lot of Berkeley students who live in private housing will leave for the summer and hence are perfectly willing to provide a sublet. They'll probably even leave all their furniture in place, meaning that you won't have to move much in. By getting such a sublet, you not only satisfy your housing needs for 3 months, but it also buys you time for you to find a place during the regular year.

I just poked around with craigslist and found this. These are pretty cheap. I have a hard time believing that you can't afford any of these places.

If there are absolutely no places to live, and you live relatively close to campus, I guess you could resort to commuting. Where do you live by the way?

Thanks for the reply sakky, I'll check 'em out. Hopefully if I get a place to sublet over summer I'll try and find someplace for next year as well, although I will have to take out personal loans above and beyond the fin aid. btw, did u get my PM i sent you a couple weeks ago?

As for the commute, that would be unreasonable as I live about an hour away (by car) in the area around Stanford.

Financial aid covers up to $700 or something per month in rent. There is no way that you can't find a place under that number. It won't be what you want, no doubt -- certainly it would be hard to have a 1 bedroom apartment to yourself for that or less -- but there are plenty of rooming arrangements that fit any and all budgets.

If you are flexible with when you want to live where, I can put you in touch with my landlord. She has a 1 bedroom apartment in south Berkeley (College x Derby) that is less than $600/mo with all utilities + internet included. It's where I stayed the past 6 months. I liked it, I just don't know the exact availability. PM me if you're interested.

hey, i'm looking for roommates for this summer and beyond.

i'm interested in cheapest rent possible. i'm looking to get a 2 bedroom 1 ba for around 1200-1400. + we'll turn the living room into a bedroom.

if we double up per room, + living room, rent + utilities will be about $300 for 5 people.

alongcamepeter, 5 people (especially 5 guys) is prolly gonna be hard to get into an apt...landlords already hate renting to guys, and 5 in a 2 bedroom is going to be un popular. but 1200-1400 is about right, you'll probably hit something like..1500, look up K and S or everest properties.
