I've had a job at REEBOK, POLO RALPH LAUREN and SEAWORLD ORLANDO.
MY TEST SUCK. I KNOW THAT. This past summer though, I went to UPenn's Precollege Program and took 2 classes.

Intro to Micro: B
Intro to Philo: B+

I don't know if attending UPenn over the summer increases my chances. I just need an estimate % of my chance in getting into Upenn. thanks!

You need to also list the kind of EC
s you have been involved during HS. Nice GPA and rank, but as you already know, your test scores are not very good. Your AP test results are not very good either, and therefore, your good grades/class rank may not carry as much weight (sorry for being harsh) Although your SAT scores are above average for you school, that won
t cut it for Penn.
Summer courses do not increase your chances that much.
Unless you have some very good EC`s , I think your chances are below 30%, sorry for being harsh.

EC's:

KEY CLUB : District Governor (12th grade)
INTERACT CLUB: Vice President (10-12th)
BPA: (9th-12th)
DECA: (10th-11th)

In DECA i won 1st place in district competition, 4th place in states, and Finalist in International Competition.

Started the READ & LEAD Program for the neigbhor elementary school. I was the head coordinator for the Tsunami Aid Fundraisor. I'm also in like 6 other clubs but have not leadership postitions in it.

My teacher recs are very good. They say I'm one of the most unique person they have met in their teaching career. I've also very close with my counselor and she has also written an amazing rec. for me.

MY TESTINGS ARE AWFUL. I SUCK AT TESTINGS. BE HARSH!! Hurt my feelings! Be very critical!!! What are my chances!!!???? Thanks.

While all your honors and EC's look pretty good, as well as your GPA and rank, your SATs and test scores are just too low for UPenn. Almost everyone who makes a school like UPenn have everything you have plus SATs usually M & V about 1450 or higher my guess.

Just a question, if your so bad at tests, how did you actually manage to get A's in every class?

I go to a school in FLORIDA. Our educational system is very bad. Classes aren't that very difficult, so its easy for me to get A's, but not for everyone else. Only 50% of our freshmans in my school actually end up graduating. Only 40% go to 4-year universities. Only 20% go to community colleges. And the other 40% is unreported. All these stats are in my schools academic profile that they're sending to the schools.

Damn, is my SAT scores so low that it'll cost me admission to UPENN???

I cant say whether it will cost you or not but its obviously your weak point to your application and UPenn looks for the students that have absolutely eveerything. You have an 1840 all together, which would be about a 1230/1600 and in my princeton review collge book the average score at least for math and verbal combined is a 1409. So since your significantly lower than that it would probably hurt your chances.

However your the top kid gradewise in your class and have pretty good EC's and leadership things, so maybe those would get you in? Just curious, what is your intended major? cause if your applying for wharton school of business, then your chances are extremely slim to nothing.

my intended major is politics, economics & philosophy. im applying to the college of arts and science. All of my electives that i have taken in high school relate that major. everything on my app relates to that major except for those AP Academic classes.

any chance?? a slim chance??

bump. please help me.

The AP and SAT scores are way too low for UPENN; the English and writing scores should hurt you in the liberal arts college. Also, they will make an effort to evaluate your high school in order to determine if your grades have merit. Sorry for being harsh, but when the acceptance rate overall is quite low, your chances can't be much higher than 5-10%. So many of the applicants are flawless, and they likely won't take a chance on you when they can have someone with the same 4.0 GPA and EC's, but with 1500+ (old) SAT's to support the grades.

bump. any positive comments?

haha.. you crack me up first saying to hurt your feelings then looking for positive comment.. but i hear you

one thing really going for you is your interest. Penn is really big on accepting a lot of ed applicants b/c they really want ppl that have penn as a first choices instead of ppl that go to penn after a reject for harvard. you also show interest by going to their summer program. On the other hand, it may be really hard for them to look past test scores. I would say retake the SAT in november if you can, it can't hurt you b/c the'll look at your top score, and most ed places let you take the november test as long as you send it right to them.

good luck

i retook the sat in october and i find out my score this monday. so i guess my test scores are going to keep me out of Penn? whatever. any other negative things about my app?

if you're the valedictorian of your class i assume your grades in english language were pretty damn good... how'd you manage a 2 on the exam lol

i took the ap english exam morning after i came back from deca competition in california. i live in FL. i came back at midnight. also, i don't have much compet. in my school. nobody cares about grades in my school.

Just curious, but doesn’t the government pay for the AP exams in Florida?

yes, florida pays for everything. they pay for ap exams, and in some schools sat's. if u maintain a certain GPA and get a required amt. of service hours, u can even get a full scholarship or 75% to any school in florida.

I'd just like to point out that ED has a much higher accceptance rate than RD so UPenn doesn't exactly have the extremely low accpetance rate you all are talking about.

The SATs and AP Exams test your potential on how well you can handle college courses. Unfortunately those are your weak points. A college may not take the A you got in AP English seriously if you only got a 2 on the exam. This is probably not your fault; your teacher may have not been rigorous enough to prepare you and other students well enough for the test. And from what I just said and your other post, it does sound like your school has a really crappy learning environment: students/teachers not caring about grades and giving mediocre effort.

So maybe UPenn will take that into consideration and that you rose above others in a poor learning environment. Mention that somewhere in your application.

And BTW, don't make excuses you did poorly because of your lack of sleep. In college, especially ones like UPenn, you'll be pulling all-nighters twice a week. So get used to it.

im not blaming my scores on lack of sleep. i cant really blame anybody but myself. but it is true that my learning environment is bad. maybe i should mention it in my essay.

teachers here, do just pass along kids to the next grade. in fact, every school in the district gets a grade based on education and other stuff, and my school got an F last year. thanks for the advice, maybe my learning environment might help me.
