ED hurt my chances?

If my GPA is on the low side (25%+) of NYU's acceptance average, yet my SAT's are higher than the average by 100 points would going ED actually hurt my chances at getting in because of a better applicant pool? Rather than going ED 2 or regular. I have pretty good EC's and likely great letters of recommendation along with a supposedly very good essay if this helps. Any weigh in would be appreciated : )

also, for those who are not aware, NYU does not defer ED students, it’s accept or reject

Bump…

100 points higher than what? Median or the 25th percentile? If you’re from south Dakota you’ll be in the running. From NY, probably not. Either way, don’t expect aid.

the 100 points is in the 75th percentile of the scores of accepted students. I am from a top ten, highly competitive HS in NJ and do not require aid. thank you : )

I am mostly concerned that ED could hurt my chances because of the non-defferal policy and the fact that my GPA is on the low end. Everything else in my application would be better than the average accepted student (50%) besides the GPA : /

I think NYU’s ED acceptance rate is around 10% higher than regular decision, at about 35%… Going ED, especially if you have lower stats AND don’t need aid, seems like a good idea… I don’t see how it could hurt…

As long as your GPA isn’t horrible I’m fairly certain you will be fine for admissions…

Well what I am worried about is that, since I am very much on the cusp between being an accepted or waitlisted candidate, the lack of a deferral option would move them to an outright rejection in the Early Decision round if their tendency is to reject the slightly lesser applicants in that round, rather than accept or waitlist them.

bump…
